About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or another relevant Engineering field is required.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in systems analysis or a related area is required.
  • Experience using Model-Based Systems Engineering tools such as Systems Modeling Language and knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink are required.
  • Experience integrating descriptive modeling tools with other simulation tools is required.
  • Applicants selected for the position must obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Strong mathematical skills and a thorough understanding of engineering theories and procedures are required.
  • Knowledge of multiple problem domains is required.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming or analytical languages such as Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or Java, including experience developing scripts, analytic workflows, or simulation tools.
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization, and computational environments, including MATLAB toolboxes or other scientific computing frameworks.
  • Experience with large, multi-source datasets, APIs, databases, or sensor-derived data to support operational assessments, algorithm development, or performance analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering, analysis, and mission-focused teams in a fast-paced research and development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently drive solutions to complex problems by developing requirements, proposing ways forward when customer requirements are unclear or incomplete, and adapting to changes in requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Systems Engineering.
  • Provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes, applying analysis techniques across a range of technical challenges and disciplines.
  • Identify program- or system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
  • Develop, document, and teach best practices to less experienced engineers.
  • Mentor colleagues by recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and providing constructive feedback.
  • Work in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment with stakeholders and external partners.
  • Contribute to translating requirements into technical and architectural decisions.
  • Identify and develop relevant modeling and analysis techniques, and develop or integrate multi-domain qualitative models.
  • Present results that support system-level analysis, performance trade-offs, and real-time decision-making.
  • Communicate technical concepts to customers, engineers, managers, and other stakeholders across relevant disciplines.
  • Apply modeling, simulation, and mission analysis techniques to complex defense, aerospace, or national security problems, translating technical outputs into mission-relevant insights.
  • Use mission-level modeling and simulation environments, digital engineering tools, or campaign analysis frameworks such as AFSIM, STK, Simulink, or Model-Based Systems Engineering environments.
  • Support trade studies, sensitivity analyses, and what-if assessments to inform technical and programmatic decisions.
  • Communicate technical findings through briefings, white papers, technical reports, and sponsor-facing presentations to technical and customer audiences.

Desired Qualifications

  • A master's degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with DoW mission environments, strategic deterrence, guidance and control, threat-informed analysis, or weapons system performance assessment is highly desirable.

About the Company

Draper

Independent nonprofit engineering firm for government

Draper is an independent nonprofit engineering organization that provides engineering services to government, industry, and academia. It works on projects as a prime contractor, a subcontractor, or a collaborator in consortia, applying interdisciplinary teams to domains from space to undersea. It differs from many competitors by focusing on mission-driven, practical solutions rather than selling products, and by using a mix of contracting models that enable broad collaboration. Its goal is to engineer working, validated systems that solve the nation’s toughest problems across multiple domains through collaborative engineering.
