Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
  • Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development or a related field. Related fields can include Arts, Early Childhood Education, Education, Humanities, Physical Education, Psychology, Recreation, Sociology, and Theater.
  • Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units with 6 more units of current enrollment in Child Development or a related field will be considered.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
  • A sincere interest in working with children 5–12 years of age and the ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner.
  • Criminal record clearance in accordance with YMCA and Community Care Licensing guidelines.
  • Successfully pass a physical exam and provide negative TB test results within 7 days of hire; TB test results must be current within 1 year.
  • Provide proof of measles, pertussis, and influenza immunizations within 7 days of hire.
  • Obtain Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute.
Responsibilities
  • Implement age-appropriate program activities that engage students in active and meaningful experiences in accordance with YMCA goals and policies.
  • Actively supervise program participants, ensuring their guidance and safety at all times.
  • Communicate in a timely, positive, and professional manner with participants, families, school and district personnel, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and program partners to align academic activities and coordinate student services.
  • Provide positive behavior guidance supporting the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students.
  • Ensure that the program meets YMCA requirements.
  • Perform daily duties to keep the space properly maintained, organized, clean, and safe.
  • Follow emergency procedures to ensure the safety of participants and staff.
  • Provide leadership to assigned YMCA Youth Development Aides.
  • Maintain dependable and flexible attendance within a changing daily schedule.
  • Respond to critical incidents using visual and auditory abilities and act physically in emergency situations.
  • Lead sports, games, and curriculum activities, monitor youth behavior, and perform general housekeeping responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • A minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development, education, or comparable setting.
  • Additional languages are highly desirable.
