Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and school laws and policies related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Considerable knowledge of online student information systems, such as ECATS.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Apps.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form using varied communication techniques and tools to support information flow, collaboration, and feedback.
  • Ability to plan and deliver professional development to adults.
  • Ability to analyze student and program data to support instruction.
  • Ability to work with adults in a consultative format to address student needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.
  • Bachelor's degree in special education or a directly related field.
  • Five years of experience in special education or a related field.
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children’s teaching area, excluding Academically or Intellectually Gifted.
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to North Carolina requirements.
  • Previous certification or eligibility for certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
  • Regular travel to various Wake County Public School System school sites.
Responsibilities
  • Provide support to teachers serving students with disabilities through school visits, observations, model-teaching, hands-on classroom involvement, and follow-up written recommendations, strategies, materials, and resources.
  • Consult with teachers and students on setting up and implementing programs and inclusive practices.
  • Compile data, write reports, and make recommendations regarding student observational data.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); assist with implementing documented goals and strategies and developing and interpreting data collection forms.
  • Assist with educational planning for specific students through communication with teachers, senior administrators, students, parents, and external agencies; attend IEP meetings as needed.
  • Assist with educational planning for transition after high school by consulting with teachers and external agencies to develop Transition Plans, locating and setting up community job sites, and attending IEP and transition meetings.
  • Provide Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training to teachers and staff in regional program classrooms.
  • Provide educational and instructional resource materials for new classroom teachers relating to Special Education Services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
