Requirements
  • At least one year of experience is required.
  • Proof of required clinical hours from an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program is required.
  • The employee must obtain ARDMS or CCI Adult Echocardiography certification as required by the applicable certifying entity within six months of employment.
  • The employee must work Saturdays and Sundays on 10-hour shifts, either 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Level II per diem sonographers must work nine weekend shifts per six-week schedule and two holiday shifts per year, including one winter and one summer holiday.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain two-dimensional and three-dimensional echocardiograms with color and spectral Doppler in the echocardiography lab and at the bedside for high-acuity patients, including patients on ventilators, ECMO, and Impella.
  • Perform stress echocardiograms and dobutamine stress echocardiograms as requested.
  • Assist cardiologists with transesophageal echocardiography, pericardiocentesis, and code coverage.
  • Support sonography training for physicians, fellows, students, and other disciplines.
  • Recognize when agitated saline and contrast agents are needed, and perform intravenous insertion when necessary.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and cooperative work environment within the department.
