Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Clinical Laboratory Supervisor certification and licensing is required.
  • Knowledge of operational management, organizational development, financial oversight, team leadership, technical proficiency with office software and relevant computer applications, and verbal and written communication is required.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to regulations and requirements from the Food and Drug Administration, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, state testing authorities, and the Joint Commission is required.
  • Experience with quality indicators, data analysis, investigations, corrective action plans, test method validation, high-complexity testing, licensing and accreditation, proficiency testing, root cause analysis, complaint resolution, and laboratory quality programs is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage teams of medical technologists performing basic tests and laboratory procedures.
  • Communicate general information and policy or procedure changes to personnel.
  • Ensure proper laboratory equipment is in place, monitor equipment performance, diagnose instrument problems and malfunctions, and make repairs or initiate service requests.
  • Plan, prioritize, and direct work activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Investigate and resolve problems concerning patient testing and procedures.
  • Assist with interviewing and selecting new staff.
  • Participate in the formal progressive disciplinary process.
  • Conduct, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of employee performance improvement plans.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation.
  • Monitor quality control and assurance and proficiency testing, and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and participate in continuing education activities and events.
  • Monitor employee compliance with approved regulatory and departmental guidelines.
  • Assist in developing strategic goals and objectives for the section.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate training programs.
  • Assist with developing competency assessment tools.
  • Participate in reviewing, revising, and implementing standard operating procedures.
  • Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained in controls and University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures comply with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Manage Food and Drug Administration reportable events, errors, and deviations; perform self-inspection and auditing; educate the clinical team; and review and investigate safety events.
  • Analyze data, generate graphs of quality indicators, conduct investigations, and prepare corrective action plans.
  • Ensure supervisors plan staffing requirements, hire to meet needs, and schedule staff to manage resources and workflow efficiently.
  • Ensure testing systems provide quality laboratory services across preanalytical, analytical, and post-analytical test performance.
  • Work with the laboratory director or supervisor and quality assurance team to implement comprehensive quality and training programs, including standard operating procedures, training records, oversight, and quality testing programs.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of high-complexity test performance and ensure test system performance levels are acceptable.
  • Help maintain licensing and accreditation, activity menus, and proficiency testing.
  • Help prepare responses to citations and accreditation inquiries.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects, investigations, root cause analyses, and complaint resolutions.
  • Adhere to Administration, Environmental of Care, CHP, Safety, Infection Control, and Laboratory policies and procedures.
