About the Job

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required; Staff-level candidates need 10 years of experience with a BS or 8 years with an MS.
  • Proven ownership of electrical enclosure, busbar, and power electronics packaging designs from concept through launch.
  • Experience defining cable and wire sizing, connector and termination specifications, including routing, strain relief, bend radius, and retention.
  • Strong sheet metal design experience for medium-volume production and design for manufacturing.
  • Solid understanding of thermal management, sealing (IP/NEMA), and vibration and shock design.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, grounding, and creepage and clearance.
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks and PDM/PLM.

Responsibilities

  • Own electrical enclosure and internal packaging design across requirements, prototyping, testing, iteration, tooling, and production release.
  • Design busbars and mounting for PCBAs, relays, contactors, fuses, and other electrical components.
  • Drive thermal management, sealing, and vibration and shock robustness of electrical hardware.
  • Define cable and wire routing, sizing, and connector and termination selection within the system.
  • Partner with electrical engineering, manufacturing, NPI, supply chain, and suppliers to bring designs into production.
  • Work with reliability and test teams to validate designs and iterate quickly.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for production, test, and field issues.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers on design strategy and technical challenges.
  • Travel to supplier sites occasionally as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with CFD/FEA, including SolidWorks Flow Simulation or Ansys.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage and high-current systems and experience with UL or similar certification.
  • Familiarity with harness and wiring standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 as applied to equipment wiring.
  • Experience integrating or reviewing lithium-ion battery packs or modules.
  • Background in EVs, energy storage, industrial electrification, power electronics, or ruggedized outdoor equipment.

About the Company

Mainspring Energy

Onsite linear generators for scalable power

Mainspring Energy designs and ships onsite linear generators that produce electricity for commercial and industrial customers, data centers, utilities, and microgrids. The kit uses a straight-line motion that is converted into electric current by magnets moving through copper coils, driven by a flameless, low-temperature air-and-fuel reaction with only two moving parts and an oil-free air-bearing. The system is fuel-flexible, handling natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, ammonia, and propane, and it scales from about 250 kW to more than 100 MW, with near-zero NOx and no after-treatment required. The company sells power as a service, enabling installations with no upfront cost and ongoing payments based on energy use, aiming to lower operating costs and increase energy resilience for its customers.
