About the job

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in program management, operations strategy, consulting, or technology-driven operations transformation, ideally across more than one business line.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering directly with Product and Engineering to scope, prioritize, and ship technical solutions.
  • Working understanding of how AI/ML and GenAI tools apply to high-volume operational workflows across marketplace businesses, including where human review is still needed.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills for sizing opportunities, defining success metrics, and measuring impact across multiple lines of business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to translate operational pain points from different businesses into clear, buildable requirements.
  • Comfort managing multiple concurrent workstreams across different lines of business with a track record of shipping measurable outcomes.
Responsibilities
  • Own identification, prioritization, and transformation of high-volume, high-friction workflows across Mobility, Delivery, and New Bets COE queues into AI-first, largely automated processes.
  • Build fluency in current-state workflows across each line of business, including volumes, turnaround time, quality, cost-to-serve, and failure modes, and build the case for automation by sequencing opportunities by impact and feasibility.
  • Partner with Mobility, Delivery, and New Bets operations leaders, Product, and Engineering to design solutions and the human-in-the-loop review experience.
  • Drive delivery from pilot to scaled rollout across lines of business and geographies, adapting the approach to each business's maturity and volume profile.
  • Define and track metrics, including automation rate, accuracy, turnaround time, cost-to-serve, and capacity impact, per line of business, and report impact to Field Operations and line-of-business leadership.
  • Act as the connective tissue between line-of-business leadership, Product, Engineering, and Data Science, keeping the roadmap grounded in real operational needs across businesses.
  • Scan the internal and external AI landscape for opportunities applicable across Mobility, Delivery, and New Bets.
  • Build enablement and change-management plans tailored to each line of business's frontline teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience across ride-hailing, delivery, or other on-demand marketplace operations, or comfort ramping quickly on new or emerging business models (New Bets).
  • Prior experience designing or launching human-in-the-loop AI systems for support, dispatch, quality, or fraud-adjacent operational queues.
  • Direct experience working with Engineering on solution design, including product requirements documents/specifications, data/API requirements, pilots, and iteration.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tooling, including large language model APIs, agent frameworks, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation, sufficient for credible technical conversations.
  • Experience in a top-tier strategy consulting firm or in operations-at-scale/marketplace businesses.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across multiple line-of-business leadership teams with differing priorities and maturity levels.
  • Bias for action and comfort with ambiguity, especially for New Bets where workflows and volumes are still evolving.

Uber's 12.1% operating margin tops rivals, but investors pay less for it than for JB Hunt

Uber Technologies keeps a larger share of sales as operating profit than four rivals in ride-hailing, delivery and freight. Its operating margin reached 12.1% over the past twelve months, up from a loss equal to 1.6% of sales three years ago. Free cash flow topped $10 billion for the first time. Yet investors pay less per dollar of Uber's earnings than for three peers. Uber trades at 15.2 times earnings, against 32.0 for JB Hunt and 99.7 for DoorDash. Uber stock fell 23.6% over twelve months, while JB Hunt rose 68.4%. Revenue growth slowed to 12.2% in the second quarter of 2026, while gross bookings grew 22%. Management blamed part of the gap on a UK business model change. Uber plans to invest $10 billion in autonomous vehicles. It has not yet sized the effect on profit.
