Genetic Improvement Intern

Primary Objectives of Position: 

Alta is seeking a Genetic Improvement Intern that is looking to implement, drive, and help show success of embryos within current and new dairy producers. This internship provides access to experienced sales mentors, tools and training to build consulting skills, time to learn at large, progressive dairy operations, and a targeted project.

Location:  This internship will span across Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa.

Major Areas of Accountability:  

• Collect and analyze on-farm data, potentially as part of designated project.
• Learn and apply ALTA value added program portfolio.
• Provide reproductive management expertise to members that will improve reproductive performance in their herds
• Summarize and present data to members/customers and other Alta staff
• Gain an understanding of the VAS suite of software products and be able to accurately relay the benefits of those products to VAS customers and prospects.
• Be willing to work with TOG full-time staff as well as independently calling on customers.
• Provide detailed feedback on the summer experience, customer and prospect feedback as well as needs within the industry

Qualifications: 

• Strong dairy background with experience working with dairy cows
• Degree in Agriculture or equivalent experience is preferred
• Experience with cattle genetics, and how they’re applied to large scale operations.
• Aggressive sales and service person who is self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must possess communication and people skills
• Willingness to learn and develop both personally and professionally
• Computer skills are required; and ability to work with herd management software is a plus
