Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • A current Arizona registered nurse license is required.
  • One or more years of ophthalmologic nursing experience is preferred.
  • One or more years of management or charge experience is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required within six months of hiring.
  • The ability to work independently is required.
  • Basic knowledge of scheduling and insurance authorization is required.
  • Availability for a flexible Monday-Friday schedule is required.
Responsibilities
  • Make staffing assignments in every area to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Train, coach, and mentor ambulatory surgery center staff.
  • Encourage a team-oriented environment and follow company guidelines and policies.
  • Foster strong relationships and maintain communication between surgery center staff, clinic staff, and providers to ensure high productivity.
  • Greet and admit patients to the preoperative and postoperative area and work in the operating room as assigned.
  • Assist with patient scheduling in all clinical areas.
  • Provide professional nursing care to patients in ambulatory surgery center settings and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Assume the role and responsibilities of circulating nurse as assigned.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process and individual patient needs.
  • Check vital signs, insert and remove intravenous catheters, assess patient needs, and report abnormal values to physicians, anesthesia staff, or surgery staff.
  • Ensure that all consent and acknowledgement forms are signed and witnessed.
  • Verify the surgery type and location to be performed.
  • Administer drops and medications in accordance with current guidelines.
  • Assist in resolving problems so surgical case flow continues uninterrupted.
  • Ensure continuity of patient care with family members or significant others.
  • Work with the Nursing Director, ASC Manager or Administrator, and Quality & Compliance to ensure the center complies with surgery standards and regulations.
  • Assume ASC Manager responsibilities as Acting Administrator during the manager’s absence.
  • Deliver discharge instructions and discharge patients in accordance with current guidelines.
  • Order supplies for preoperative, recovery, and sterile processing areas as needed.
  • Maintain familiarity with code procedures and the crash cart.
  • Make recommendations regarding orientation for new hires and ensure the related documentation is completed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
