Gossamer Bio secures $250M private placement with $150M committed for seralutinib PAH approval

Gossamer Bio has secured a structured private placement financing of up to $250 million to fund development of seralutinib, a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension and related conditions. The deal includes $150 million in committed capital: $25 million at initial closing and $125 million upon FDA acceptance of the seralutinib new drug application in 2026. Investors will also receive warrants exercisable upon FDA approval, potentially providing an additional $100 million if exercised in full. The financing involves participation from new and existing institutional investors, including EcoR1 Capital, 683 Capital Partners, RA Capital Management, and others. Gossamer Bio plans to submit the NDA in September 2026. The company expects the proceeds, combined with existing cash resources, will fund operations into 2028. Leerink Partners and Cantor are serving as joint placement agents.

Slate secures $245M to develop dual migraine antibody in Fulcrum reverse merger

Slate Medicines is merging with Fulcrum Therapeutics to list on Nasdaq, securing a $245 million private placement led by Frazier Life Sciences. The North Carolina biotech emerged from stealth in February with $130 million in series A funding. Slate's lead candidate, SLTE-1009, is a monoclonal antibody targeting PACAP and VIP for migraine treatment, licensed from China's DartsBio Pharmaceuticals. The company has clearance to start a phase 1 trial in Australia, with topline data expected in mid-2027. A phase 2 migraine study is planned for the second half of next year. The financing, combined with existing cash, will fund operations into 2029. Slate's second candidate, SLTE-2100, is a bispecific antibody targeting CGRP and PACAP/VIP. Fulcrum is exiting after discontinuing its sickle cell programme and will return cash to investors via dividend.

Expedition Therapeutics closes $115M Series B for COPD drug. August 10, 2026 Fundraise Insider tracks newly funded startups each week and delivers verified sales leads of C-suite contacts straight to your inbox, so you reach the right people while the funding is still fresh. See pricing. Expedition Therapeutics closed an oversubscribed $115 million Series B on August 5, 2026, led by General Atlantic with RA Capital and Vivo Capital joining. The existing investor base turned out in full. Sofinnova Investments, Novo Holdings, Forbion, Dawn Biopharma, Adage Capital Management, Balyasny Asset Management, Logos Capital, Sanofi Ventures, BVF Partners and Venrock Healthcare Capital Partners all participated. The timing was not accidental. The financing was announced alongside the dosing of the first patient in the company global Phase 2 trial in COPD, which is the point at which an asset stops being a preclinical story. Expedition is based in San Francisco, California, and was founded by Yi Larson, who serves as chief executive. The money carries EXPD-101, its next generation DPP1 inhibitor, through Phase 2, and funds expansion of the pharmaceutical pipeline into other inflammatory diseases along with further research discovery work.

USDA backs Plantible Foods' $35M raise to scale duckweed Rubisco protein capacity fivefold

Plantible Foods has raised $35 million in USDA-backed financing to expand production of its duckweed-derived Rubisco protein. The San Diego startup secured $25 million in debt from X-Caliber Rural Capital, a USDA-licensed lender, plus $10 million in equity from RA Capital and existing investors including Piva Capital. The funding will finance up to 50 new greenhouses at Plantible's 100-acre Texas facility, increasing capacity fivefold to over 100,000 tonnes annually. The company's Rubi Protein ingredient, which received FDA clearance six months ago, offers functional properties matching egg whites whilst delivering a 70% nutritional yield. Duckweed grows in two to three days with minimal water use and contains all nine essential amino acids. Plantible has raised $92 million to date.
