Requirements
  • Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, preferably with people with a brain injury.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license, adequate insurance when using a personal vehicle, and a safe driving record are required. The employee must be at least 21 years old, have held a valid United States driver's license for at least six months, and pass a driver's screening background check.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift, operate a computer and office equipment, maneuver through narrow spaces, assist persons served with daily living tasks, and communicate with persons served, staff, and external representatives.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required within two weeks of hire.
  • First Aid certification is required within two weeks of hire.
  • Medication Administration Program certification is required within 150 days of hire.
  • Safety Care certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • A Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of service is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing aide care and daily routine and episodic support to individuals with brain injuries and complex health needs.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with Medication Administration Program guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including community membership, vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, and passive range-of-motion exercises.
  • Monitor individuals served for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status.
  • Provide for nutritional needs and train and support individuals in personal hygiene, household chores, and other activities of daily living.
  • Conduct fire and safety training and document it as required.
  • Provide transportation to medical, dental, and other appointments as directed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and respectful environment, including housekeeping, snow shoveling, and garbage removal as needed.
  • Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incident reports, medication errors, and other required services accurately and according to policy.
  • Communicate changes in client status to managers, administrators, staff, families, guardians, and other designated parties.
  • Use and maintain assistive and medical equipment, including wheelchairs, walkers, Hoyer lifts, glucometers, nebulizers, oxygen equipment, and related supplies.
  • Provide opportunities for individuals served to participate in home, program, and community events.
  • Respect and encourage the preferences and choices of individuals served and advocate effectively for them.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with individuals served, families, guardians, and other significant contacts.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, outside agencies, and community providers.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff, training, and community meetings.
  • Act as a positive role model for individuals served.
  • Assist with orientation of new staff and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior Certified Nursing Assistant experience with people with a brain injury is preferred.
  • Certified Brain Injury Specialist certification may be requested.
