Requirements
  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience in Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline, with 3–5 years of industry experience developing electronic products from concept through prototype and into manufacture.
  • Strong experience designing mixed-signal electronic systems, including analogue, digital, and power electronics.
  • Experience with schematic capture and multi-layer printed circuit board design using Altium Designer or an equivalent ECAD package.
  • Experience selecting components, designing circuits, and integrating commercially available modules into complete electronic systems.
  • Experience designing battery-powered embedded systems, including battery charging, power regulation, and power management.
  • Experience designing interfaces for motors, pumps, LEDs, cameras, sensors, and other peripheral devices.
  • Strong hardware debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power analysers, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with printed circuit board bring-up, fault finding, and hardware verification.
  • Understanding of EMC/EMI, signal integrity, and design for reliability.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and supporting printed circuit board assembly and prototype builds.
  • Experience planning technical work, managing electronics risks, and taking ownership of engineering deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of challenging technical problems.
Responsibilities
  • Take technical ownership of the electronics architecture for the medical device, driving development from early concept through prototype, verification, and product release.
  • Design mixed-signal electronic systems integrating optical modules, battery management, power electronics, motor drivers, user interface electronics, and supporting sensors.
  • Design schematics and multi-layer printed circuit boards, select appropriate components, and integrate commercial modules into robust product designs.
  • Develop and validate battery charging, power management, and low-power system architectures for portable medical devices.
  • Design interfaces for miniature cameras, LEDs, pumps, motors, and user-interface hardware, including buttons, indicators, and status LEDs.
  • Bring up, debug, and validate prototype hardware using laboratory test equipment, identify root causes, and implement robust design improvements.
  • Work closely with firmware, mechanical, optical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless hardware integration across the product.
  • Plan and scope electronics development activities, identify technical risks, define development priorities, and estimate work required to achieve project milestones.
  • Own electronics design documentation, including schematics, design calculations, test plans, verification reports, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Lead electronics risk-management activities, maintain Design FMEAs, and support system-level risk analysis throughout product development.
  • Work with printed circuit board manufacturers, assembly houses, and component suppliers to support prototype builds, design for manufacture, and design for test.
  • Identify and establish the laboratory equipment, software tools, suppliers, and development processes required to build an electronics function.
  • Contribute as a hands-on individual contributor while helping shape the future electronics capability as the team grows.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing electronics for medical devices or regulated products.
  • Experience with optical systems, including cameras, LEDs, photodiodes, or imaging hardware.
  • Experience designing motor driver circuits or fluidic or pump control systems.
  • Experience with USB, USB-C, or battery charging integrated circuits.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware development and debugging.
  • Knowledge of Design FMEA, risk management, and design verification within regulated product development.
  • Experience supporting Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly, and Design for Test.
  • Familiarity with standards such as IEC 60601, IEC 62304, or ISO 14971.
  • Experience working closely with external printed circuit board manufacturers, assembly partners, and component suppliers.
  • Prior work in a start-up or small-company environment.

Level Zero Health develops a biosensor platform for remote, continuous hormone monitoring. Its core product is a minimally invasive arm patch that uses DNA-based biosensors and microneedles to measure hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, and testosterone in interstitial fluid. The patch attaches to the skin, accesses interstitial fluid with microneedles, and converts hormone levels into electronic signals sent to a connected system for real-time tracking integrated into clinical workflows.
