Requirements
  • The candidate must hold an independent license in any state, such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • A master's degree from an accredited graduate program in behavioral health or social work is required.
  • The candidate must be willing, with short notice, to accept assignments of undefined periods, including weekends.
  • The candidate must be able to cover full-time assignments ranging from a weekend to two weeks.
  • The candidate must be able to adapt quickly to new working conditions and varying location rules.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively with minimal instruction and guidance.
  • The candidate must participate in in-services, training, Quality Improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.
  • The candidate must be able to engage and communicate quickly with military members, spouses, or children and respond to emergent situations across military installations and school settings, including traversing uneven outdoor locations and working in varying weather conditions.
  • The candidate must comply with site-specific requirements, which may include providing records of current immunizations or vaccinations.
  • The candidate must prove United States citizenship and be fluent in English.
  • The candidate must have advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling methods.
  • The candidate must create a confidential, approachable presence on the installation or in child and youth settings and follow line-of-sight protocol when working with children.
  • The candidate must establish working relationships with community resources and provide appropriate linkages.
  • The candidate must partner with installation points of contact to provide adult and Child and Youth Behavioral services.
  • The candidate must manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol.
  • The candidate must participate in individual and group supervision and communicate trends and issues to regional supervisors.
  • The candidate must respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the point of contact and approved by the program manager.
  • The candidate must maintain the required current licensure, including independently licensed behavioral health clinician credentials and applicable customer-specific requirements.
  • The candidate must hold a valid in-state driver's license.
Responsibilities
  • The counselor provides coverage in short-term, surge, and on-demand situations, including post-deployment events and coverage for absent counselors.
  • The counselor provides adult or Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations.
  • The counselor provides non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling directly to adults, children, and youth of service members, including assessment, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referrals, resource linkage, and follow-up.
  • Child and Youth Behavioral counselors support staff and personnel at child development centers, schools, youth programs, and summer camps and provide parent training and guidance.
  • The counselor provides training and health and wellness presentations and participates in health fairs and other installation activities.
  • The counselor enters counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application while maintaining service-member and family-member confidentiality and anonymity.
  • The counselor creates a presence on the installation or in child and youth settings where service members, families, children, youth, and staff can access the program.
  • The counselor establishes and maintains relationships with community resources and provides appropriate linkages.
  • The counselor partners with installation and military branch points of contact to deliver services within scope and meet installation needs.
  • The counselor manages duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol and staffs cases with regional leadership.
  • The counselor communicates with regional supervisors and participates in supervision, sharing trends and issues from assigned installations and facilities.
  • The counselor responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the point of contact and approved by the program manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior military service, being a military family member, or strong familiarity with military culture is desired.
  • For Child and Youth Behavioral positions, experience with children and youth and a specialty in child and adolescent development or psychology is desired.
