Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or an educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Phlebotomy certification is required.
  • A certificate is required.
  • At least one year of qualifying experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician within the past two years is required.
  • The candidate must meet applicable government qualifications, credentialing, security, and onboarding requirements.
  • The candidate must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, standard operating procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, and Joint Commission standards.
Responsibilities
  • Receive, inspect, label, accession, and process specimens from Madigan Army Medical Center and other Defense Health Agency laboratories.
  • Enter specimens and laboratory requests into the Laboratory Information System and MHS Genesis.
  • Verify specimen integrity, collection timing, labeling, containers, and suitability for testing.
  • Prepare and distribute specimens to the appropriate laboratory sections or for transport and mail-out.
  • Process blood, urine, and other biological fluids according to established procedures.
  • Prepare biological waste for proper disposal.
  • Provide general support to Medical Laboratory Technicians and Clinical Laboratory Scientists, including communicating specimen requirements with clinical departments.
  • Perform venipuncture on service members when required during aircraft incidents.
  • Greet patients, determine eligibility and testing priority, and verify laboratory orders.
  • Perform duties safely, timely, professionally, and with a focus on quality.
