About the company

Woodlands Senior Living

View

Woodlands Senior Living runs assisted living and memory care communities for older adults across Maine, each staffed around the clock by specially trained caregivers. Its memory care communities serve people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and several were purpose-built for them, with secured buildings, walking courtyards and home-scaled shared spaces. Residents pay a monthly fee based on a daily rate for a private or shared room, which covers help with bathing, dressing and mobility along with planned activities. The family-owned business began in 1980 as a single boarding home in Hallowell and is headquartered in Augusta, Maine.

Simplify Jobs

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Aides earn credentials on the job: an on-staff nurse educator teaches monthly courses toward medication aide and support specialist licenses.
  • One nurse leader role skips weekends: Woodlands' Bridgton RN care coordinator opening is weekday-only at $38 to $45 hourly.
  • Off-hours shifts pay extra: Woodlands' Hallowell medication aide posting lists evening, night and weekend shift differentials.

What critics are saying

  • Some income depends on Maine's Medicaid program: state agreements let Woodlands accept a limited number of MaineCare-subsidized residents.
  • Signing money requires six months' tenure: Woodlands' Waterville nursing assistant bonus pays in three installments through day 180.
  • Aides face a training deadline: Woodlands' Bridgton posting requires new personal support specialists to certify within 120 days.

What makes Woodlands Senior Living unique

  • Quality gets outside review: Woodlands was Maine's first Joint Commission-accredited assisted living provider, covering all 10 communities.
  • Nursing stays basic: Woodlands' residential care license excludes skilled services like IV therapy, which an outside provider supplies onsite.
  • Apartment residents buy care as needed: Woodlands' Park Residences sell assisted living services as a package or a la carte.
