About the job

Requirements
  • Advanced hands-on SolidWorks modeling and drafting capability, including independently producing reliable parts, complex assemblies, layouts, section and detail views, dimensions, callouts, and production-ready drawing packages with limited direction.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical equipment and the physical integration of power-distribution, controls, instrumentation, communications, grounding, and cable and conduit management systems within packaged equipment.
  • Ability to read and reconcile one-lines, schematics, point-to-point diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, I/O lists, cable schedules, vendor submittals, P&IDs, and mechanical or structural layouts.
  • Strong spatial reasoning and attention to electrical clearances, equipment access, cable routing, support, bend radius, segregation, termination space, installation sequence, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC/NFPA 70 and relevant UL and IEC requirements, and ability to apply project-specific requirements under engineer direction.
  • Strong drawing-checking discipline and ability to identify incomplete, inconsistent, conflicting, or non-manufacturable design information before release.
  • Practical problem-solving ability and sound judgment when translating engineered requirements into buildable modular designs.
  • Effective written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills for documenting technical issues and coordinating with engineers, designers, manufacturing personnel, vendors, and field teams.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize assigned work, manage several projects or drawing packages concurrently, and meet quality, schedule, and labor-budget commitments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and related business and documentation software.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Comfort Systems USA stock surges 871% in 3 years on $14B AI data centre backlog

Comfort Systems USA, a mechanical and electrical services contractor, has seen its stock surge 77% this year and 871% over three years, driven by its role in AI data centre construction. The company's backlog has grown to $14.06 billion, exceeding projected 2026 revenue of $13 billion. Technology-related revenue, including data centres, now represents 58% of total revenue, up from 40% the previous year. President Trent McKenna noted this substantial increase during a July earnings call. The company's backlog reflects contracted installation and replacement project work, typically lasting under one year. It excludes service work and maintenance contracts, meaning the figures don't fully capture long-term revenue opportunities. The backlog continues expanding as hyperscalers invest heavily in AI infrastructure.

Big Tech burns $13.5B as AI buildout sends Treasury yields to 4.79%

US Treasury yields near 4.79% reflect strong corporate borrowing for AI investments rather than economic weakness, according to analysts Joel Litman and Rob Spivey. They argue that context matters more than absolute rate levels. Companies borrowing at 5% to fund projects returning 30-40% benefit from current rates, whilst those earning less than borrowing costs face pressure. The analysts note that AI-related corporate debt issuance reached roughly $1.5 trillion this year, driving yields higher. Alphabet posted its first negative free cash flow since 2004, burning $5.9 billion in Q2 as capital expenditure hit $44.9 billion. Amazon swung to negative $7.6 billion on a trailing basis. However, negative cash flow can signal productive investment rather than distress, the analysts suggest.

Comfort Systems USA stock down 20% from peak despite AI data centre boom

Comfort Systems USA stock has fallen more than 20% from its all-time high, despite strong fundamentals in the AI infrastructure sector. The company provides HVAC, plumbing, piping, and electrical systems for data centers, with demand expected to rise as AI data center construction accelerates. The US currently has over 3,000 operational data centers, with more than 1,500 under construction. Fortune Business Insights projects AI data centers will grow at a 25.8% compound annual growth rate through 2034. Comfort Systems USA reported $3.27 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 51% year-over-year. The company generates income both from initial construction and ongoing maintenance of data centers. Whilst construction represents the bulk of current revenue, maintenance income should increase as more facilities come online, creating steady long-term revenue streams.

Comfort Systems' electrical revenues surge 81% on data-centre demand, outpacing mechanical growth

Comfort Systems USA is experiencing strong demand across both its operating segments, with Electrical outpacing Mechanical growth. In Q2 2026, Electrical revenues surged 81.2% year-over-year to $969 million, whilst Mechanical revenues increased 40.2% to $2.30 billion. Data-center activity drove most of the Electrical gains. Of the $434.3 million year-over-year increase, $301.7 million came from same-store operations, with Texas contributing $186.6 million. Acquisitions added $132.6 million. Mechanical remains the larger business at 70.3% of quarterly revenues. Its gross margin improved to 25.6% from 22.9%, outpacing Electrical's margin gain to 26.4% from 25.3%. Both segments showed strong backlogs: Mechanical reached $10.06 billion and Electrical $4 billion, each up roughly 73% year-over-year.
