Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, specifically Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of quality engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, including demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Deep working knowledge of quality management systems, inspection methods, and statistical techniques.
  • Proven expertise applying root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, and statistical process control to complex, high-consequence problems.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor others while working effectively in high-hazard, safety-critical manufacturing environments.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable state and federal explosives licenses.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the United States, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required export authorizations.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality systems in compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Department of Defense, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to manufacturing operations, ensuring process controls, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria are robust, well-defined, and followed.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action efforts for complex nonconformances, defects, and customer complaints.
  • Own the review and approval of manufacturing procedures, inspection instructions, and quality records related to energetics production.
  • Lead internal audits and represent Quality during external customer, regulatory, and certification audits.
  • Analyze quality data and metrics to identify systemic trends and drive strategic continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and associate quality engineers, reviewing their work and supporting their development.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Environment, Health, and Safety, and Supply Chain to ensure quality requirements are integrated throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead supplier quality activities, including supplier qualification, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Lead failure investigations, material review boards, and risk assessments such as failure mode and effects analysis, and present findings to technical and cross-functional audiences.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, security, and handling requirements for energetic materials, and champion a strong safety culture within the team.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the quality organization and lead technical discussions with cross-functional leaders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in energetics, explosives, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability manufacturing industries.
  • American Society for Quality certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, or Certified Six Sigma Black Belt; Black Belt is preferred.
  • Advanced familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or Department of Defense quality requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with configuration management and controlled documentation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of government contract requirements and customer quality clauses, including experience negotiating with suppliers, vendors, and partners.
