Paccar Connect platform brings 15-inch touchscreen to Kenworth, Peterbilt cabs.

Paccar Connect platform brings 15-inch touchscreen to Kenworth, Peterbilt cabs. Kenworth and Peterbilt's new Paccar Connect platform integrates a 15-inch landscape display with Platform Science's Virtual Vehicle gateway, letting fleets push ELD and dispatch apps directly to the dash. Photo: MobiusDaXter (via source) What does Paccar Connect add to Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks? Kenworth and Peterbilt are shipping a new Paccar Connect platform that centers on a 15-inch landscape touchscreen integrated into the center dash stack. The platform functions as a hardware gateway to Platform Science's Virtual Vehicle platform, letting fleet managers configure and push approved enterprise applications - ELDs, DVIRs, dispatch systems - directly through the Paccar Connect portal. Both OEMs ship the system with four pre-loaded, subscription-free native applications. Kenworth previewed the 15-inch display during a vocational drive program this summer. The screen is split into two functional zones: a fixed left-hand frame with essential truck and climate controls that never change, and a dynamic right-hand plane for active workflows, navigation, and fleet apps. How does the Kenworth interface handle gloved operators? Kenworth's human-machine interface team kept dedicated, tactile rotary dials immediately beneath the screen for fan speed, temperature, and volume to accommodate vocational operators wearing heavy work gloves. The housing extends slightly from the dash with a bottom bezel lip, giving drivers a sturdy resting spot for their hand or thumb to steady input while operating. The split-zone layout is a deliberate choice for vocational work. Climate and truck controls stay in the same place regardless of what app is running on the right side of the screen. A driver switching between a fleet dispatch app and navigation does not lose access to HVAC or engine data. What fleet apps can run on Paccar Connect? Beyond the four native applications, Paccar Connect functions as a hardware gateway to Platform Science's Virtual Vehicle platform. Fleet managers can configure, push, and manage approved enterprise applications directly through the Paccar Connect portal. The list includes electronic logging devices, driver vehicle inspection reports, and fleet-specific dispatch systems. This is the same Platform Science architecture that powers Navistar's OnCommand Connection and Daimler Truck North America's Detroit Connect portal. Fleets running mixed OEM rosters can standardize on a single app-management workflow if all their tractors use Platform Science as the underlying gateway. The subscription-free native apps ship with every Paccar Connect-equipped truck. Fleets that want additional functionality - third-party ELDs, custom dispatch tools, route-optimization software - pay for those apps separately through the Platform Science marketplace or through direct vendor agreements. Paccar has not disclosed whether the four native apps include an ELD or DVIR function, or if those remain third-party purchases. Does the 15-inch screen replace physical gauges? The fixed left-hand frame on the Kenworth display suggests that essential truck data - coolant temp, oil pressure, DEF level - remains visible at all times. The source material does not specify whether traditional analog gauges are still present in the instrument cluster or if all primary data has moved to the touchscreen. Ergonomically, the bottom bezel lip is a practical detail. Drivers operating a touchscreen while moving need a stable anchor point. A hand or thumb resting on the bezel reduces the chance of a missed input when the truck hits a pothole or railroad crossing. What does this mean for fleets running legacy telematics? Fleets with existing telematics contracts face a decision. If the current ELD or fleet-management platform is available through Platform Science's Virtual Vehicle marketplace, the migration path is straightforward - configure the app through the Paccar Connect portal and push it to the dash. If the legacy platform is not available, the fleet either negotiates a custom integration, switches to a Platform Science-compatible vendor, or runs a separate tablet mount alongside the factory screen. An AI-native carrier TMS built around load-lifecycle automation that already integrates with Motive, Samsara, and HOS247 can pull ELD data from the dash-mounted app and feed it directly into dispatch and settlement workflows, eliminating the manual reconciliation step that burns dispatcher time in legacy TMS platforms. The Paccar Connect portal gives fleet IT teams centralized control over which apps drivers can access. A carrier that wants to lock down the interface to ELD, DVIR, and navigation only can block drivers from installing unapproved software. This is a fleet-management feature, not a driver convenience feature. When does Paccar Connect ship, and on which models? The source material does not specify a production start date or which Kenworth and Peterbilt models will offer Paccar Connect as standard or optional equipment. Kenworth previewed the system during a vocational drive program this summer, which suggests a 2027 model-year rollout is likely, but Paccar has not confirmed timing. Vocational operators are the stated target for the Kenworth interface design - the glove-friendly rotary dials and bezel lip point to dump, mixer, and construction applications. Whether the same 15-inch landscape display will appear in Kenworth's over-the-road T680 or Peterbilt's Model 579 is not yet clear. What this costs per truck. Paccar has not disclosed pricing for the Paccar Connect platform or whether the 15-inch display will be standard equipment on certain trim levels. The four subscription-free native apps suggest that base functionality ships at no additional cost beyond the hardware, but third-party apps - ELDs, DVIRs, dispatch tools - will carry separate subscription fees set by the app vendors, not by Paccar. Fleets ordering new Kenworth or Peterbilt tractors in 2027 should ask dealers whether Paccar Connect is included in the base spec or priced as an option package, and whether the four native apps cover ELD and DVIR compliance or if those remain third-party purchases. The difference between a $2,000 option package with compliance apps included and a $2,000 package that still requires a $40/month ELD subscription changes the five-year TCO by $2,400 per truck.

Platform Science adds four PS Fleet tools for dispatch, driver coaching and delivery tracking

Platform Science, a connected vehicle platform, has added four products to its PS Fleet app suite: PS Command Center, PS Coach, PS Truck Tracker, and Vehicle Settings for PS Visual Intelligence. They let fleets spot problems earlier, scale safety coaching, share delivery tracking with customers, and control in-cab video settings from the back office. PS Command Center gives dispatchers one real-time dashboard of dispatch status, driver hours, and arrivals. PS Truck Tracker creates a secure, self-expiring link showing a single vehicle's live location, with no login needed. PS Coach lets small safety teams coach thousands of drivers and keep timestamped records. Vehicle Settings lets administrators tune detection sensitivity and privacy controls without asking Platform Science. Command Center and Truck Tracker are available now. Coach and Vehicle Settings are rolling out to select fleets.
