Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a formal orthopedic training program is required, or equivalent American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals certification must be obtained within three months.
  • Previous clinical experience is preferred.
  • Certification by the National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists or registration by the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect individualized skilled technical orthopedic care under written medical-staff orders by applying, adjusting, maintaining, and removing specified orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
  • Instruct patients and their families on the use of orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
  • Directly assist medical staff in the orthopedic room, inpatient units, and operating room.
  • Accept telephone orders from appropriate physicians within the scope of responsibility and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures; accept verbal orders only in emergency situations.
  • Apply fracture braces on a physician’s written order.
  • Assist with daily office functions, including exam-room turnover, data entry, appointment scheduling, and insurance precertifications.
  • Work with medical staff, office staff, and administration to support team-based patient care and maintain cooperative interdepartmental relationships.
