Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • A current license with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • A current card showing successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR – Healthcare Provider).
  • Experience with the MDS transmittal process and an understanding of regulations impacting the MDS.
  • In-depth experience and knowledge working with MDS computer software.
  • Expertise in MDS processes and systems.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work cooperatively with healthcare professionals and other departments.
  • The ability to solve practical problems, work with limited standardization, and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.
  • The ability to communicate professionally with internal and external contacts.
  • The ability to maintain professional relationships with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff through appropriate interpersonal skills and demeanor.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement infection control and universal precaution practices.
Responsibilities
  • Overall supervision, coordination, maintenance, and timely completion of the MDS, care plans, and medical records for residents.
  • Verify that all MDS assessments for Medicare and long-term residents are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Supervise subordinate MDS coordinators.
  • Ensure that all assessments are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the monthly Triple Check meeting and ensure that it is scheduled according to accounting needs.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and complete MDS assessments, resident care plans, and conferences on the computerized system.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the medical record according to HFCA and Medicare standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure MDS electronic submission occurs according to Texas regulations.
  • Participate in family and resident care plan conferences.
  • Ensure effective communication with other shifts and departments regarding medical record documentation.
  • Notify physicians and families of changes in residents’ conditions.
  • Encourage rehabilitative techniques to restore residents’ independence.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in developing and implementing medical records policies and procedures.
  • Audit resident charts as assigned.
  • Coordinate the restorative program.
  • Present or attend in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Perform specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ensure the timeliness of physicians’ visits.
