Requirements
  • Successful completion of the Lender Certification Program.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all regulations governing consumer lending.
  • A high school diploma and a minimum of one year of experience in a related field.
  • Prior experience underwriting, processing, and closing consumer loans, including auto, recreational vehicle and boat, sportcraft, personal, and credit card loans.
  • Experience reviewing financial statements, including pay stubs, purchase agreements, insurance documents, and other supporting documentation.
  • Ability to identify red flags in loan scenarios and supporting documentation.
  • Prior customer service experience, specifically cross-selling within a financial services environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assist members with consumer loan products over the phone by evaluating loan applications, explaining loan terms, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering member service.
  • Underwrite and process consumer loan applications submitted by members through all channels.
  • Monitor multiple Lending Center queues and their functions to ensure underwriting and document-review service levels are met.
  • Communicate with members about loan applications through phone, email, text messaging, and MeridianLink web messaging.
  • Use a proactive service approach to maximize each member interaction, set expectations for the remainder of the loan process, reduce unnecessary future contact, and move applications toward funding.
  • Render accurate loan decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Review approved loans for stipulation completion, rate and term handling, document collection, identity verification, and system notation.
  • Consult with members and recommend products and services that meet their financial needs, including insurance, payment protection, Wealth Management, and GAP coverages.
  • Use MeridianLink, FIS, the intranet, the internet, and the credit union’s core systems.
  • Assist members and internal customers with questions and problems related to the credit union’s loan programs.
  • Apply policies and procedures to underwrite consumer and student loans.
  • Use personal and telephone interviewing techniques to discuss loan alternatives with members.
  • Attend job-related external and in-house training and departmental staff meetings.
  • Support annual strategic goals and assigned individual and team goals.
  • Review credit reports with members and explain findings, including poor credit.
  • Provide financial counseling to members and maintain current knowledge of the lending environment, economic conditions, and lending risk.
  • Evaluate borrowing history and repayment history, determine risk and ability to repay, and submit recommended loan decisions based on application details.
  • Promote digital loan-processing solutions, including online and mobile loan applications, the Mobile Application Center, DocuSign, and text messaging.
  • Obtain loan documents to help members satisfy stipulations and improve the ease and efficiency of loan processing.
  • Provide recommendations for process efficiencies and new ideas to meet goals.
  • Participate in Broadview community initiatives and meet volunteering expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Prior experience at Broadview or another financial institution.
  • Fluency in a second language in addition to English.
