Requirements
  • A PhD degree in biology, preferably in neuroscience, neuroimmunology, or immunology.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to manage projects of moderate size with Principal Investigator input.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts as required.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical functions, including laboratory work, lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds, maintaining corrected 20/40 vision, color discrimination, depth perception, hearing acuity, and respirator qualification.
Responsibilities
  • Execute research activities involving animal procedures and behavioral experimentation, including surgical procedures for traumatic brain injury models, behavioral assays, experimental data analysis, animal colony maintenance, and tissue harvesting.
  • Conduct wet laboratory procedures including immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry staining, microscopy, flow cytometry, cryosectioning of tissue, and analysis of experimental results using dedicated software.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, manage reagent and aliquot inventory, and oversee equipment maintenance with Research Specialists.
  • Prepare initial drafts of manuscripts, abstracts, and progress reports, including publication-quality figures, detailed methods, and draft introduction, results, and discussion sections.
  • Develop posters and other presentation materials for scientific meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant scientific literature.
  • Apply for intra- and extramural funding and assist the Principal Investigator with laboratory grant proposals.
  • Support related projects, assist other personnel, train new and visiting lab members on standard protocols and procedures, participate in laboratory and project meetings, and maintain accurate records of budgets, purchases, and laboratory notebooks.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in maintaining a clean, collaborative, compliant, and efficient research environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in immunofluorescence and microscopy, flow cytometry, and small-animal behavioral assays.
  • Surgical experience in rodents, preferably including traumatic brain injury models or other cranial procedures.
