  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An active Georgia Certified Nursing Assistant certification is required.
  • An active American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of basic nursing procedures and simple charting.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and work cooperatively with staff.
  • Ability to perform the required physical activities, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, twisting, and reaching.
  • Ability to maintain resident confidentiality and comply with organizational, regulatory, and legal requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect resident care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, personal care, comfort, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Assist with resident admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
  • Provide morning and evening care, including hand and face washing, oral hygiene, back rubs, perineal care, linen changes, cleaning overbed tables, and room straightening.
  • Notify licensed personnel when a resident reports pain.
  • Assist Licensed Practical Nurses with treatment procedures.
  • Position, lift, turn, transfer, and ambulate residents; assist with bedpans, commodes, and special equipment.
  • Perform patient care that promotes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or healthcare errors.
  • Measure and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, blood pressure, and intake and output.
  • Make rounds with outgoing and incoming shifts and maintain awareness of assigned residents.
  • Check for reddened areas or skin breakdown and report findings to nursing staff.
  • Ensure residents are properly dressed, clean, and dry, and properly store clothing and personal belongings.
  • Use supplies and linens efficiently and follow established charge procedures for resident charge items.
  • Update care plans, report changes to the Assistant Director of Nursing or Director of Nursing, and complete daily documentation.
  • Provide reality orientation during daily care.
  • Report and document changes in residents' conditions or behavior and unusual incidents.
  • Distribute drinking water and nourishment to residents.
  • Perform general care activities for residents in isolation.
  • Answer resident call lights, anticipate needs, and make rounds of assigned residents.
  • Assist residents with the care of clothing and personal property, including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices.
  • Attend staff meetings, mandatory in-services, competency evaluations, annual reviews, skills fairs, and required educational programs.
  • Wear required protective clothing and equipment and comply with dress and identification requirements.
  • Use the computerized time clock system correctly and report to work as scheduled.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with the organization's code of conduct, policies, and ethical business practices.
  • Interact professionally and cooperatively with residents, families, coworkers, and other departments.
  • Report suspected illegal or unethical behavior to a supervisor or Compliance Officer.
  • Use electronic protected health information systems only as necessary for assigned job functions.
