Requirements
  • An undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree
  • The equivalent experience is defined as greater than four years of experience in a technical manufacturing continuous improvement environment, along with a High School Diploma.
  • Experience and demonstrated capability in leading others.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc), internet software, e-mail.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of HACCP concepts.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the efforts of multi-line, area, or technology operating teams on one shift to efficiently convert materials into quality products in a safe, secure, and sanitary manner within the product design specifications.
  • Implement changes in methods, equipment, systems, and organization, as needed, to ensure that the objectives of the line/area are met and give input and recommendations for such changes by using a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Lead or participate in one or more MSE Pillars; Lead and support the implementation of Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Autonomous Work Teams (AWTs) in area of responsibility; Lead key connection points and own reliability data collection accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Area Managership Team (Area Manager or Continuous Improvement Engineer, Continuous Improvement Specialist, Maintenance Coordinator) to create and execute the reliability strategy for the area of responsibility.
  • Coach operators to build their functional and Managerial capabilities and drive accountability in safety, Quality and Food Safety, Autonomous Maintenance, and team engagement.
  • Coordinate materials, staffing, and resources to support line operation and changeovers.
  • Ensure standards are implemented on shift and in areas of responsibility through effective communication, change management, consistent reinforcement, coaching, guidance, and accountability measures.
  • Ensure safe working conditions, behaviors, and mindsets through the direct implementation of Mars Safety programs and driving a relentless focus among a team of operators.
  • Ensure the ongoing Shift of safe and defect-free products consistent with the principles of Mars. HACCP proficiency is required; this manager owns ongoing training and championing of quality goals and improvements at the Area Shift level.
  • Manage associate relations issues and guide and direct the hiring, training, retraining, development, and motivation of Operations associates following self-managed, team-working principles with a minimum degree of guidance from the Area Manager or Value Stream Manager.
  • Responsible for facilitating and driving an environment of high associate engagement on the team.
  • With the general guidance of the Value Stream or Area Manager and/or the support of the Continuous Improvement Engineer, establish line and individual performance standards and goals, and measure, control, take corrective action, and report results as appropriate.
  • Utilize the technical resources on shift for the preventive maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of process/packaging equipment problems, to effectively use these resources to achieve desired performance levels.
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities and reactively lead on-shift incident resolution when operators require additional support. Prioritize, assign resources against escalated issues, and make decisions to resolve escalated issues.
  • Ensure that open communications are established and that opportunities to broaden the scope and responsibility of Operations teams/associates are undertaken.
  • Advise when opportunities exist for moving the line/area forward in technological change.
  • Participate in implementing improvement strategies to help the line/area perform more effectively in the near term.
  • Responsible for partnering with Talent Acquisition to recruit and select associates for operations roles, and responsible for onboarding associates effectively.
  • Develop associates by mentoring and supporting their development plans and helping them grow in functional capability and long-term career.
Desired Qualifications
  • A degree in one of the Engineering, basic sciences, or business-related disciplines.
  • Previous direct people Managership experience preferred.
  • Champion of safety with OSHA experience or certification preferred.

Mars and Strava partner to track pet activities with new 'Pet Tag' feature

Mars, the global pet care leader, has partnered with fitness app Strava to launch a "Pet Tag" feature allowing US dog owners to track outdoor activities with their pets. The collaboration, part of Mars' IAMS brand initiative, aims to encourage active lifestyles for both pet parents and their animals. The partnership includes exclusive Strava challenges throughout 2026 and supports Mars' BETTER CITIES FOR PETS programme, which seeks to create more pet-friendly urban spaces. According to Mars research, 76% of Strava users with pets say their companions motivate them to exercise, yet only 40% of urban pet owners consider their neighbourhoods truly pet-friendly. Data from the partnership will help advocate for more welcoming urban environments. Mars aims to increase access to pet-friendly green spaces for 10 million people worldwide by 2030.

Mars Snacking to create 600 jobs, invest $100M in expanded Chicago headquarters

Mars Snacking is creating 600 new jobs as it expands its global headquarters in Chicago, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced. The expansion will add the company's North America Region, Accelerator Division and Global Functions to its Chicago operations. The confectionery company, which produces M&Ms, Snickers, Twix, Starburst and Skittles, will open a new North America regional office hub in Chicago's Fulton Market district with capacity for over 1,000 associates. The Accelerator division will establish a global office hub in downtown Chicago at the former Kellanova headquarters. Under an Economic Development for a Growing Economy agreement, Mars Snacking has committed to a $100 million investment. The company currently supports more than 4,000 jobs in the Chicago region and operates its Global Innovation Center there.

Mars invests $20M in climate-smart rice farming to boost crop resilience

Mars has committed to invest $20 million in sustainable rice sourcing programmes by 2030 to help farmers adopt climate-smart agriculture practices. The investment comes as climate change threatens global rice yields, which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projects will decline by 10-15% by 2050. The company, which owns Ben's Original rice brand, will work directly with farmers to implement regenerative practices like Alternate Wetting and Drying and the System of Rice Intensification. These methods reduce water usage and greenhouse gas emissions whilst improving crop resilience. One Arkansas farm using these techniques has reduced water usage by 60% and achieved up to 60% lower emissions compared to regional averages. Mars is also a founding member of the Sustainable Rice Platform, a global alliance promoting sustainable rice farming.
