Requirements
  • Current Alabama registered nurse license.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia.
  • Initial certification and current recertification with the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Competence with anesthesia equipment and pharmaceuticals appropriate for the job.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Normal or corrected hearing and vision within the normal range.
Responsibilities
  • Select and administer anesthesia techniques, medications, and adjunct drugs appropriate to each patient within established procedures before, during, and after surgery.
  • Review patient charts, perform physical assessments pertinent to anesthesia orders, evaluate laboratory data, and formulate written anesthesia plans for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of surgical patients.
  • Perform endotracheal intubation and extubation, as well as invasive therapy and monitoring.
  • Identify and manage emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Communicate and cooperate effectively with staff at all levels while maintaining sensitivity and respect for all customers.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards and create positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, colleagues, and self.
  • Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Recognize and take appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • Adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work onsite and maintain physical presence at the facility.
  • Work with others face to face or in groups and function effectively in a team setting.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and confidentiality of others.
