PC shipments fall 21% to 57M units as AI servers drive up memory costs

Global PC shipments fell 21% year over year in the third quarter, to 57 million units, Counterpoint Research said on October 22, 2026. Rising memory and component costs pushed up PC prices and held back demand. AI servers use far more memory than PCs, so chipmakers are shifting capacity to server chips. TrendForce expects fourth-quarter DRAM contract prices to rise 10% to 15% and NAND flash prices 15% to 20%. HP shipped 10.3 million units, down 31%, the steepest drop among the top six vendors. Dell fell 25% to 7.6 million, and Lenovo fell 23% to 15.0 million. Dell has a $95 billion AI server backlog. Apple shipped 11% fewer Macs but raised its share to 9.8% from 8.7%. Counterpoint expects a 27% annual decline in the fourth quarter.

Infinity and HP double AI workload capacity on GB300-powered ZGX Fury without new hardware

Infinity, an automated AI research company, has teamed up with HP Inc to double the concurrent workloads and token throughput of NVIDIA's Nemotron 3 Super model on the HP ZGX Fury, without changing the hardware. The desktop machine runs on NVIDIA's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip. In testing, the setup handled about twice as many concurrent requests at the same responsiveness threshold. Infinity delivered the first gain in under 24 hours of engineering work and has kept optimising since. Infinity's engineers tuned the inference stack using techniques from vLLM, NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM, and SGLang, plus their own methods. Gartner forecasts that global spending on AI inference will overtake spending on AI training this year, at $23.3 billion versus $19 billion. Infinity was founded in August 2025 and is backed by Touring Capital.

HP Partners with NVIDIA to Enhance AI Security Framework.

HP Partners with NVIDIA to Enhance AI Security Framework. HP is taking a significant step in enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) safety for small businesses by integrating NVIDIA's Open Agent Safety Platform into its AI infrastructure. This new initiative is designed to strengthen AI security across multiple sectors, including business sectors that depend on AI technologies for efficiency. The Open Agent Safety Platform provides a full-stack approach to AI safety, encompassing infrastructure, models, agent harnessing, runtime software, and robotic systems. This comprehensive framework is set to offer many benefits that small business owners need to consider as they navigate an increasingly digital landscape. One of the principal advantages of this initiative is the enhanced security it offers to small businesses. As more firms adopt AI-driven solutions for customer service, supply chain management, and data analytics, the risk of malicious cyber threats grows. By utilizing the Open Agent Safety Platform, small businesses can protect their sensitive data from potential breaches and ensure compliance with data protection regulations. Discover more Open Biz Account Small Business Trends small businesses "[This initiative] gives small businesses the confidence to leverage AI systems without compromising their security," stated an HP spokesperson, emphasizing the platform's pivotal role in fostering secure environments for AI applications. In practical terms, small business owners can find several immediate applications for this platform. For instance, businesses relying on AI chatbots for customer interaction can improve their safeguards against misinformation and malicious content. By employing enhanced safety protocols designed by the Open Agent Safety Platform, these tools can operate more securely, reducing the risks associated with cyber threats while improving customer trust. Furthermore, this robust AI infrastructure enables better performance in AI models, leading to improved efficiency and productivity. For small businesses, this means less downtime and a higher return on investment from technological operations. By employing AI-driven analytics, businesses can gain insights into customer behavior and market trends more effectively, allowing for smarter inventory management and enhanced marketing strategies. However, integrating such advanced technology may come with challenges. Small businesses need to consider their current technical capabilities and whether they have the infrastructure to support this new platform. For businesses lacking IT resources, investing in cloud-based solutions may present a more economical option. Additionally, training employees to work within an AI-enhanced environment will be essential, necessitating time and financial resources to develop the necessary skill levels. Security and compliance assessment will also be crucial as small businesses start implementing these AI systems. They should consider evaluating their data management practices and ensure they align with new regulatory measures. RRD expands strategic digital print agreement with HP to advance SMART manufacturing architecture.

RRD expands strategic digital print agreement with HP to advance SMART manufacturing architecture. 14 October 2026 13:02 HP and RRD today announced an expanded strategic agreement that will see 15 HP digital presses deployed across key RRD manufacturing locations, extending their long-standing relationship through 2029. Building on the investment announced at drupa 2024, the deployment will expand digital production capacity and operational flexibility while supporting RRD's global Systematic Manufacturing, Automation & Robotic Transformation (SMART) manufacturing framework. This next phase reflects RRD's continued investment in HP's digital print technologies, services, and solutions to meet evolving client needs across commercial print, direct mail, packaging, labels, and statement applications. By integrating HP technology into its standardized data infrastructure, the expanded agreement supports RRD's broader SMART manufacturing architecture, which enables AI-driven predictive maintenance, dynamic production scheduling and network capacity balancing to help mitigate supply chain disruptions. It also underscores a shared focus on operational efficiency, workforce enablement, production agility, and scalable long-term growth. "Customers increasingly expect print to be more personalized and responsive to their needs, whether it's a statement, a direct mail campaign, or a package," said Craig Roberton, President, Marketing and Operational Print at RRD. "They need greater flexibility without compromising the reliability and consistency they expect at scale. This expansion gives us the capacity and capabilities to deliver on both, while enabling our teams to take on more complex, data-driven work with increased speed and efficiency." For more than 30 years, HP and RRD have worked together to advance large-scale digital print production across RRD's global network, driving greater flexibility and efficiency in increasingly dynamic print environments. "The agreement between RRD and HP goes beyond the purchase of assets," said Alan Gardner, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Process Management, RRD. "It ensures that technological advancements are incorporated into future thinking and project planning. By continuing to collaborate, both companies work closer together and find opportunities to advance manufacturing technologies, associated automation, and functionality to remain highly competitive." "RRD has been one of the industry's most forward-looking print providers for decades, consistently investing in technologies that create a real operational and commercial advantage," said Oran Sokol, Vice President of Strategy and Solutions, HP Graphics Solutions Business. "This next phase reflects the confidence RRD has in HP technology to support their production strategy. Together, we're helping build a more connected, agile, and digitally driven future for the graphics industry."
