We are looking Grove Collaborative is seeking a high-energy, passionate Associate Formulation Chemist to be an amazing addition to our Owned Brands portfolio team. Grove Owned Brands is the driving force behind the company’s growth. We are a fast-paced, dynamic team, which is essential when creating innovative consumer-centric Home and Personal Care products that set the standard in performance, human and environmental safety, design, and sustainability. The successful candidate will be a vital member of the R&D team enabling innovative, leading edge new products, as well as improvement to our existing products in the Grove Owned Brands portfolio.
The Associate Chemist reports to our Senior R&D Manager and requires at least 3 days per week in our San Francisco office.
Your Impact
- The role supports the innovation and execution of product development in the Home Care R&D group, collaborating with other R&D personnel
- You will ensure housekeeping practices are maintained and that the lab continues to be clean and safe
- You will be responsible for keeping supplies and raw materials adequately stocked and organized
- You will collaborate & assist fellow formulation chemists and packaging engineers. This may include batching, running stability, performance testing, or shipping product samples
- You will formulate household cleaning products that meet our performance, safety, and environmental standard guidelines independently and with guidance when needed
- You will participate in the development of product design, formulation optimization for specific attributes, manage costs, and that ingredient selection meets Grove’s requirement
- You will support product qualification including product stability testing, micro-challenge, performance testing, package compatibility, and other performance & safety tests as required
- You will support scale up by generating data that provide a holistic picture of potential formula variability and manufacturing behavior.
Required Experience & Competencies
- You have a BS in Chemistry or a related discipline or equivalent
- You can work on-site in our San Francisco office at least 3 days per week
- You have 1 year of lab experience in a consumer goods product environment in Home Care, Personal Care, or Food & Beverage
- You exhibit great housekeeping habits with limited laboratory space
- You must be nimble and able to think outside the box in order to achieve goals
- You have strong organizational, verbal, and written skills with intense attention to detail
- You are able to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints
- You are able to work alongside fellow chemists
- You have strong project management skills
- You have strong computer skills, including Microsoft You are familiar with basic statistical concept and data treatment knowledge
- You are self-motivated with an enhanced ability to work independently
- You have the passion for working in a value based dynamic B corp
