Requirements
  • High school education is required.
  • Post-high-school ophthalmic assistant education or training is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification coding is required.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with clinical care for patients in the Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology divisions across infant, pediatric, adult, older adult, and frail elderly populations.
  • Provide direct inpatient and outpatient patient care.
  • Take patient histories, measure visual acuity and eye pressure, conduct diagnostic imaging including Humphrey Visual Fields, optical coherence tomography, and fundus photography, administer eye medications, assist with minor surgeries, and update patient records.
  • Support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions.
Desired Qualifications
  • American Board of Opticianry certification, National Contact Lens Examiners certification, or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of other Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification coding is preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills are preferred.
