Zurich launches specialist pregnancy and baby loss support service with Empathy. To mark Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October), Zurich has launched a specialised pregnancy and baby loss support service. Empathy's Pregnancy Loss Support programme, available at no extra cost to life protection customers, helps families access expert guidance and compassionate support following miscarriage, stillbirth and baby loss. The service builds on Zurich's wider support for families affected by pregnancy and baby loss, complementing its pregnancy and early childhood cover launched in 2024. The support is designed to ease that burden through personalised guidance, emotional support and access to trained specialists. Available to birthing and non-birthing parents for up to two years after a loss, it combines practical help with compassionate care. Key features include a personalised care plan tailored to an individual's circumstances and type of loss and articles from experts, guides and resources covering both emotional and practical challenges. It also includes grief and wellbeing tools such as guided meditations and audio content, a private journaling space to support reflection and healing, a family hub enabling up to five loved ones to co-ordinate support and stay connected, and access to UK-based care managers via scheduled calls and in-app messaging. The service is underpinned by a dedicated UK-based care team trained in pregnancy and baby loss support. Care managers receive specialist training to help them navigate highly sensitive conversations and provide compassionate, non-clinical guidance, helping families connect with the most appropriate professional support, clinicians and resources for their individual needs. The programme also supports families facing anticipated pregnancy loss, recognising that every experience is different and that support is needed at every stage of the journey. Louise Colley, director of retail protection at Zurich, (pictured) said: "Losing a pregnancy or a baby is something no parent expects to face, yet it affects thousands of families every year. As awareness of pregnancy loss continues to grow, it's vital that people can access meaningful support at home, at work and through their communities. "Through our pregnancy and early childhood cover, support for colleagues experiencing loss and our partnership with Empathy, we're helping ensure families can access practical, emotional and financial support when they need it most. Most importantly, we want people to know they do not have to navigate this journey alone." James Tait, director of corporate risk at Zurich, added: "The government's recent announcement to introduce bereavement leave for those affected by pregnancy loss is an important step in recognising the lasting impact of loss. But while time away from work matters, support is just as important when people are ready to return. "Through Pregnancy Loss Support, we're helping employers provide access to specialist emotional and practical support. By helping employees and their families navigate grief and protect their mental wellbeing, we hope to make the journey back to work feel less overwhelming."
Zurich Savings & Protection Plan now available via ShopeePay. Matures in two years, and up to 105% premium payout. Insurance provider Zurich Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad, and payment platform ShopeePay have announced an extension of their partnership, launching the former's Savings & Protection Plan on the latter's app. This can now be purchased by hitting the "Insurance" button on the app's home page, then selecting "Endowment". According to the announcement, the Zurich Savings & Protection Plan that's available via the ShopeePay app starts from RM500. This gets customers "a simple two-year solution that combines savings growth with life protection". The company says that it is looking to lower the entry premium down to RM100 sometime in the future. Junior Cho, Country CEO of Zurich Malaysia, also said "next year, we will extend that same simplicity to family takaful, giving more Malaysians the choice of Syariah-compliant protection, and helping them be ready for every change life brings". Going back to the plan, this provides life and disability protection of up to 105% of the paid premium. As mentioned earlier, the plan matures after two years, though there are flexible early cash-out options as well. If you opt for this, ShopeePay says that you can "get back up to 99% of your premium back [sic]". Finally, there's the promise of guaranteed cash back every six months. Cho also said, "Malaysia's protection gap has always been about access. To close it, we must meet Malaysians in the places they already are, rather than expecting them to come to us". Alain Yee, Head of ShopeePay Malaysia, adds, "while general insurance and general takaful provided vital protections and safety nets, the inclusion of ZLIMB plans on ShopeePay takes accessibility a step further with a more proactive approach. By lowering the barriers to entry, we are making it easier for more Malaysians to take meaningful steps towards strengthening their financial future". Yee concluded with "together, we aim to make quality protection more affordable, understandable, and accessible to the communities that need it most". Updated 1:36 pm, Wed, 7 October 26
Australia:Insurance coverage is the key driver of overall resilience. Australia's first comprehensive Resilience Index has revealed that insurance coverage is the key driver of overall resilience. However, over 20% of Australians still face significant vulnerability driven by financial insecurity. The Australian Resilience Index - developed by Zurich in collaboration with Mandala Partners, the RedBridge Group and Accent Research - released on 29 September 2026, utilises 2m proprietary and public data points and represents the first comprehensive, quantitative assessment of resilience across financial, health, social and environmental parameters at a local community level. Overall resilience was found to be most correlated with financial wellbeing, over social, health or environmental factors. Resilience, or the ability of people and communities to withstand and recover from shocks, is measured and aggregated across four dimensions: * Financial Resilience, including savings, insurance coverage and superannuation balances; * Health Resilience, including physical & mental health conditions, access to care and lifestyle factors; * Social Resilience, such as crime rates, community participation and belonging; and * Environmental Resilience, including planning, infrastructure and service availability. Within individual measures, insurance coverage was identified as a key driver of overall resilience, with communities registering insurance penetration of 50% or more being five times more likely to have higher financial resilience and four times more likely to have higher health resilience. Of the nearly 2,500 local areas analysed, Cottesloe in Western Australia (WA) was identified as the nation's most resilient, driven by the highest average dividend income rate in the country (16 times the national average), seven times higher average superannuation balances, double the insurance penetration, a third of the long-term health conditions, half the smoking rate and double the level of community volunteering. Of the ten least resilient areas in the nation, half are located in the Northern Territory (NT), including the Tiwi Islands which scored lowest overall. Residents in this area are over 80 times more likely to live in crowded housing, experience five times the national rate of crime, have access to zero hospitals within 15kms, and are more likely to experience weakened social belonging than any other local area. Middle-aged males (35-49) are Australia's most resilient demographic group, driven by high income levels (81% earning above the median, versus 60% of females the same age), higher superannuation balances & dividend incomes, and far lower rates of primary caregiving. This is despite poorer health resilience, driven by obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption, and lower social resilience, due to weakened belonging and "feeling like a stranger in their own country". Younger people (15-34) exhibit the highest health resilience, driven by substantially lower rates of obesity, long-term health conditions, smoking and care requirements. This is despite markedly higher rates of mental health conditions. Women are healthier on average than men, who are almost three times more likely to report unhealthy alcohol consumption, 50% more likely to smoke, and 24% more likely to be overweight or obese. Males and people aged over 34 are far more likely to have higher environmental resilience than other cohorts, driven by higher home ownership rates, living in areas with stronger economic & infrastructure investment and increased access to services. Zurich Chief Executive Officer Justin Delaney said, "Insurance sits at the intersection of these four dimensions of resilience. It protects financial stability when shocks occur, supports health & wellbeing through prevention and recovery services, and relies on - and contributes to - social cohesion and environmental preparedness by pooling risks and supporting communities. "As Australia's only major composite insurer, Zurich has a responsibility to use our data and insights broadly and systemically - to better understand the pressures facing our customers and the community to continue to evolve our propositions around prevention, early intervention and long-term protection." Mandala Partner Adam Triggs said, "Australians face multidimensional risks - financial, economic, environmental, technological, social, geopolitical and health - and these risks are more correlated than ever before. The focus on resilience given the breadth, depth and unpredictability of these risks has never been more important."

Kristof Terryn to lead 'world's largest' specialty insurance business as Beazley joins Zurich. 2nd October 2026 - Author: Kane Wells - Kristof Terryn has been appointed CEO of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty, subject to regulatory approval, following Zurich's £8.1bn acquisition of Beazley, creating what it describes as the world's largest specialty insurance business. The combined business will be headquartered in London, with Terryn taking over as Adrian Cox departs Beazley as the insurer begins a new phase under Zurich ownership.
