Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Geography, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, Ecology, Public Planning, or a related field is required.
  • Zero to three years of professional experience in environmental planning, environmental compliance, transportation planning, geographic information systems, natural resources, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental planning and environmental compliance through prior internships, applied academic projects, or work experiences is required.
  • Familiarity with the National Environmental Policy Act process through coursework, internships, academic projects, or professional experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, is required.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and analytical skills are required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple assignments is required.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills are required.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, client offices, and other locations, potentially including out-of-town or overnight travel, is required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons, lift 30 pounds, and traverse steep slopes and rough terrain is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing National Environmental Policy Act documentation, environmental assessments, technical reports, and related project deliverables.
  • Support environmental reviews for transportation, infrastructure, and community development projects.
  • Conduct environmental research and regulatory reviews to identify project requirements, constraints, and opportunities.
  • Assist with preparing documentation for Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and Environmental Impact Statements.
  • Support environmental permitting and agency coordination efforts.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze environmental and geographic information systems data.
  • Develop maps, exhibits, figures, and spatial analyses using geographic information systems software.
  • Assist with field reviews, environmental inventories, and site reconnaissance as needed.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, presentations, and other planning documents.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, scientists, and regulatory specialists.
  • Support project managers with project documentation, deliverables, schedules, and client communications.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and technical training programs.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Planning, Environmental Studies, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Working experience with geographic information systems software such as ArcGIS Pro is preferred.
  • Experience creating maps, exhibits, spatial analyses, and technical graphics is preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting National Environmental Policy Act documentation, environmental permitting, transportation planning, or environmental compliance is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and Environmental Impact Statements is preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations and permitting requirements is preferred.
  • Participation in planning, environmental, or geographic information systems-related professional organizations is preferred.
