About the job

Requirements
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems from scratch.
  • Experience managing fleets of hundreds or thousands of computers.
  • Deep experience with GPU performance optimization, including writing custom CUDA kernels.
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems or robotics infrastructure.
  • Experience building petabyte-scale storage and database systems.
  • Experience with high-performance networking and video encoding pipelines.
Responsibilities
  • Architect and own the entire infrastructure pipeline behind a fleet of thousands of robots with embedded GPUs, communication over Wi-Fi to inference clusters, petabyte-scale video streaming to training clusters, and frequent model-weight deployments within strict real-time latency budgets.
  • Optimize infrastructure systems end-to-end across networking, storage, databases, embedded software, deployment systems, and GPU optimization.

  • Experience taking infrastructure from prototype to production in a small team.

About the company

Pantograph PBC builds general-purpose robots by providing an integrated hardware-software stack to train them. Its flagship product is the Pandroid, a durable, bimanual mobile robot with treads designed for safe operation and large-scale data collection. Pantograph controls the full stack—from custom hardware and firmware to AI training infrastructure and self-supervised reinforcement learning algorithms—enabling robots to learn from real-world experiences without large labeled datasets. It pursues a 'robot preschool' approach where robots gather unsupervised data in the real world to continuously improve their understanding of environments, and it operates as a Public Benefit Corporation focused on extending access to autonomous systems and tackling large physical tasks that are hard to automate today.

What believers are saying

  • July 2026 Pan-1 proved goal-conditioned learning across 104 Minecraft evaluation worlds.
  • September 2026 benchmarks attracted attention by testing GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable 5.1.
  • Pantograph’s October 2026 site says Pandroid early access is imminent, signaling commercialization.

What critics are saying

  • Pantograph disclosed no funding; runway and manufacturing scale remain opaque.
  • FCC authorization is unresolved, blocking legal sale until certification arrives.
  • Frontier-model robot control still fails often; Astra scored 35%, Fable 15%.

What makes Pantograph unique

  • Pantograph controls hardware, firmware, training, and algorithms around Pandroid in-house.
  • Pan-1 and September 2026 robot benchmarks show rapid research-to-hardware integration.
  • Pandroid’s $4,199 price and Linux stack target scalable fleet deployment.
