Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediate eligibility for licensure.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of employment and before independently administering patient care.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certifications are required within 90 days of employment.
  • An appropriate level Fetal Monitoring course is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to meet the listed physical demands, including frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Visual and hearing acuity, including color vision, are required.
  • Ability to work safely despite possible exposure to chemicals, mechanical parts, electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to assess, plan, provide, document, and evaluate patient care.
  • Conduct ongoing systematic data collection and psychosocial assessments, including assessment for possible abuse or neglect.
  • Establish nursing diagnoses, predict outcomes, coordinate assessment data, and establish patient goals.
  • Coordinate and plan nursing care with a multidisciplinary team and make appropriate clinical decisions.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop plans of care and prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Provide care to obstetrical, postpartum, newborn, Level 2 nursery, and post-surgical patients according to their needs.
  • Implement interventions identified in each patient’s plan of care.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes and communicate effectively with physicians and other team members.
  • Provide patient and family teaching based on individual patient needs.
  • Administer and reconcile medications appropriately.
  • Adhere to infection prevention protocols.
  • Protect patient rights, including confidentiality, informed consent, and privacy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary program evaluation, process improvement, and client-centered outcome initiatives.
  • Meet mandatory and continuing education and competency-validation requirements.
  • Support department goals and organizational success.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Participate in survey-readiness activities and help ensure departmental compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Follow the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Handle protected health information appropriately and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and report safety concerns appropriately.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
