Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or an Arizona or other state Teaching Certificate is required.
  • A Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card and background and criminal history clearance are required.
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification are required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, and coworkers is required.
  • A strong commitment to promoting health and safety, including a healthy environment, is required.
  • The ability to operate office equipment such as a fax machine, copier, and computer is required.
  • The position requires flexibility, adaptability, dependability, initiative, resourcefulness, accurate and timely work, deadline management, prioritization, working with minimal supervision, cooperation, and compliance with school policies and safety rules.
Responsibilities
  • Instruct scholars using the classical model of learning.
  • Establish and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior and maintain order among assigned scholars.
  • Observe and evaluate scholars' academic performance, behavior, and social development.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet scholars' varying needs and interests.
  • Conduct balanced instructional activities involving demonstrations, questions, work time, observation, discovery, and investigation.
  • Instruct scholars through whole-class, small-group, leveled-group, and individual approaches using techniques including Explicit Direct Instruction, Direct Instruction, Socratic Teaching, Cooperative Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Discovery Learning.
  • Provide disabled scholars with assistive devices, supportive technology, and daily living skills instruction.
  • Read books to entire classes or small groups.
  • Prepare scholars for later grades by encouraging exploration of learning opportunities and perseverance with challenging tasks.
  • Guide and counsel scholars with social adjustment, academic, or special-interest needs.
  • Provide materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use in learning activities and imaginative play.
  • Enforce administrative policies and rules governing scholars.
  • Use computers, audiovisual aids, equipment, and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Instruct and monitor scholars in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Organize and lead activities promoting physical, mental, and social development, including games, arts and crafts, music, narration, and storytelling.
  • Assist with hall and cafeteria monitoring and supervise scholar drop-off and pick-up.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Arizona Teaching Certificate is preferred.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Common Core Standards, also known as Arizona College and Career Ready Standards, is preferred, or willingness to learn them.
