Requirements
  • The candidate must be licensed to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • The candidate may be required to have professional knowledge of psychiatric nursing theory obtained through education at an accredited school of nursing.
  • The candidate must have satisfactory previous clinical experience.

Responsibilities
  • Assess persons served care needs, develop a plan of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and continually reassess the plan according to those needs.
  • In collaboration with physicians, provide and coordinate nursing care for individuals and groups of persons served.
  • Assist in teaching persons served and their families, and provide milieu management.
  • Communicate with and educate persons served families or significant others regarding discharge and after-care planning needs.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for persons served and staff in individual and group settings.
  • Document, report, and verify necessary information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and report potential risks to persons served safety to physicians when those risks could lead to an adverse outcome.
  • Create a customer- and client-friendly environment by following quality-improvement standards and maintaining positive relationships with departments, programs, coworkers, and external customers.
  • Provide care in various clinical settings and implement person-centered, compassionate care for diverse persons served populations.
  • Function as a clinical leader by delegating and coordinating staff assignments and promoting staff development.
  • Utilize and continually review patient-care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care, and provide input into process improvement.
  • Train direct-care staff when required.
  • Provide indirect oversight of medication and physical-health activities in a program when required.
  • Schedule staffing and obtain pre-authorizations when required.
  • Provide spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.
  • In the community residential setting, support and promote a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach.
  • Demonstrate the Hospital and Residential Services Model of Care in hospital and residential areas.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
