Tesla designs and sells electric vehicles and renewable energy products. Its cars (Model S, 3, X, Y, and Roadster) run on battery power, with a semi-autonomous Autopilot driving system and a global network of fast-charging stations called Superchargers. The company also provides solar panels, Solar Roof, and energy storage products (Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack) to generate and store clean energy for homes and businesses. Tesla operates with a vertically integrated model, manufacturing key components (batteries, drivetrains) and selling directly to customers via its website and stores, while earning revenue from vehicle and energy product sales and regulatory credits. Its goal is to speed up the world’s transition to sustainable energy by combining mobility and energy solutions in one ecosystem.

Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory will be central to scaling production of its Optimus humanoid robot, according to the head of Tesla China. The facility, which previously ramped Model Y production to full capacity in just six weeks, offers the infrastructure and supplier network needed for high-volume manufacturing. Tesla aims to produce one million robots annually from Shanghai, with Gen 3 Optimus volume production planned before the end of 2026. The company unveiled the Gen 3 design in Q1 2026 as its first mass-production model. Tesla's energy segment generated $3.84 billion in Q4 2025 revenue, up 25% year-over-year, whilst overall gross margin expanded to 20.1%. The market currently assigns just a 17% probability to Tesla releasing Optimus by 31 December 2026, suggesting significant upside if production targets are met.
Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory delivered over 85,600 electric vehicles in March, up 8.7% year-on-year, with domestic Chinese sales exceeding 56,000 units and exports surpassing 29,000 vehicles. The facility delivered 213,000 vehicles in Q1, up 23.5% year-on-year, with a product localisation rate now exceeding 95%. The plant works with over 400 Chinese suppliers, more than 60 of which have joined Tesla's global supply chain. However, Tesla faces intensifying competition from BYD and Geely, which are growing faster and pressuring market share despite rising sales. The Shanghai operation supports Tesla's broader shift beyond vehicles towards AI, robotics and energy. Work includes a new Gigafactory producing Megapack battery systems for utilities across China, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Tesla's full self-driving (FSD) system has received approval in the Netherlands after 18 months of testing covering over one million kilometres. Dutch authorities confirmed the supervised autonomous driving technology met safety requirements, enabling Tesla to offer the service to customers at €99 monthly or €7,500 upfront. The Dutch approval allows Tesla to submit an application to the European Union for broader authorisation across member states. If approved, drivers could use FSD throughout Europe, though initially limited to divided highways rather than all roads. The development represents a significant opportunity for Tesla, opening a new market for its high-margin software services beyond vehicle sales. FSD capability remains a key selling point for Tesla vehicles and central to the company's growth strategy.
Tesla unveils exclusive 200mph model S "gold" Signature edition available by invite-only purchase. April 13, 2026 No Comments 2 Mins Read The Tesla Semi: From Concept to Reality Nearly a decade after its initial unveiling in 2017, Tesla is finally gearing up for mass production of its highly anticipated Semi trucks. The company recently opened a dedicated factory just outside of Reno, Nevada, with plans to produce up to 50,000 trucks per year. Volume production officially kicked off in March 2026 at the new Tesla Semi factory, marking a significant milestone for the electric truck industry. What sets Tesla apart from its competitors is the strategic location of its factory. By situating the 1.7 million square foot facility next to Gigafactory Nevada in Sparks, Tesla has effectively streamlined its supply chain logistics. The 4680 battery cells that power the Semi are manufactured on-site, eliminating the need to source components from external suppliers. This vertical integration has enabled Tesla to overcome previous supply chain challenges and prioritize production of the Semi. During the 2025 Annual Shareholder Meeting, Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla would begin volume production of the Semi in 2026. The first limited deliveries were made to PepsiCo in December 2022, with other companies like Kroger, Walmart, and DHL also joining the electric truck revolution. Real-world efficiency tests conducted by DHL have shown promising results, closely matching Tesla's targets for energy consumption. The 2026 production model of the Tesla Semi boasts several upgrades over the original design, including a 1,000 pound weight reduction, improved aerodynamics, and support for 1.2 MW Megacharger speeds. Tesla has also started rolling out Megacharger stations across the country to support the Semi's charging needs during long-haul trips. Musk has emphasized the economic benefits of the Semi, highlighting its lower total cost of ownership compared to traditional diesel trucks. With California offering generous subsidies for electric vehicles, the Semi has already garnered significant interest from fleet operators. As Tesla continues to scale up production and expand its infrastructure, the future looks bright for the electric truck market. The combination of cutting-edge technology, efficient design, and sustainable operation positions the Tesla Semi as a game-changer in the transportation industry. Stay tuned for more updates as Tesla revolutionizes the way Tesla, Inc. think about commercial trucking. April 13, 2026 April 12, 2026
