About the company

SpaceX designs, builds, and launches rockets and spacecraft for government and commercial customers, using reusable first stages to cut costs. Its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy recover their boosters to enable rapid reuse, while Dragon transports cargo and crew to the International Space Station. Starlink operates a satellite internet constellation to provide global broadband coverage. It earns revenue from launches and merchandise, with the broader goal of making space travel cheaper and, over time, enabling human life on other planets and expanding global internet access.

SpaceX achieves first Starship orbital flight with 26 Starlink V3 satellites despite engine issue

Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management said investors underappreciated SpaceX's first orbital Starship flight, despite SPCX shares closing down about 2% on Monday. The 14th Starship test lifted off from Texas and put its upper stage into orbit for the first time, deploying 26 Starlink V3 satellites. One engine shut down during the climb, causing SpaceX to end the mission after three hours instead of the planned ten. Munster called it "double and quadruple good news." Starship's size is roughly twice that of Falcon Heavy, enabling cheaper, faster satellite deployment. The new Starlink V3 satellites should quadruple speeds to around 600 Mbps from 150 Mbps. Retail sentiment around SPCX improved from bearish to neutral following the launch.

SpaceX's Starship reaches orbit for first time, delivers 26 satellites despite engine shutdown

SpaceX's Starship reached low-earth orbit for the first time on 28 September 2026, marking a significant milestone for the rocket. The vehicle launched from Starbase Texas and successfully deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites during its 14th test flight. Despite the achievement, challenges emerged. One engine shut down early before orbit, prompting flight control to end the mission after three hours instead of the planned 10. Both rocket sections completed controlled splashdowns. Starship is crucial for SpaceX's operations. The rocket is larger than the Falcon-9 and designed to carry bigger V3 satellites. The company aims to make Starship fully reusable, which could dramatically reduce spaceflight costs. In the second quarter, SpaceX generated $7.8 billion in revenue, up 92% year over year, whilst narrowing its operating loss to $143 million.

SpaceX's Starship reaches orbit for first time carrying 26 Starlink V3 satellites

SpaceX's Starship reached orbit for the first time on Monday morning, launching from Starbase, Texas, at 8:48 EDT. The rocket carried 26 new Starlink V3 satellites, marking what CFO Bret Johnsen called the rocket's first "revenue-generating flight". SpaceX plans 13 additional launches. The booster achieved a soft splashdown offshore. Although the ship lost one vacuum engine during ascent, it continued to orbit successfully. Starlink was SpaceX's only profitable division as of the second quarter, operating roughly 11,000 satellites compared to Eutelsat OneWeb's 650. The V3 satellites are larger, transmit data faster, and generate twice the solar power of previous versions. SpaceX shares have climbed approximately 41% since August, though they remain a third below their June peak of $225.64. Wall Street's average target stands at $232.07.

SpaceX's Starship reaches orbit for first time, deploys 26 Starlink satellites on Flight 14

SpaceX launched its Starship rocket into orbit for the first time on 28 September 2026 from Starbase, Texas. The mission, called Flight 14, marked the vehicle's first orbital attempt after 13 suborbital test flights. The rocket deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites during the roughly ten-hour mission. Three satellites carried cameras to scan Starship's heat shield during reentry, providing data crucial for NASA's 2028 Artemis IV lunar mission. CNN described Starship as the most powerful rocket ever made. One Raptor 3 engine shut down unexpectedly during ascent, but the vehicle continued its burn and reached orbital insertion at approximately 170 miles altitude. SpaceX stock traded at $149.80, up 0.75% on the day. The company aims to reduce the cost to orbit by 99% or more through reusability.

Google launches AI chips on SpaceX rocket to test orbital data centers as Musk predicts space will host 100% of compute

SpaceX is set to launch Google's custom AI chips into orbit this week aboard a Falcon 9 rocket to test orbital data centres. Elon Musk commented that "the amount of compute in space will obviously round up to 100% of all compute." The launch highlights SpaceX's strategic position as launch provider even for AI competitors. SpaceX's CFO says the company aims to deploy 100 GW of orbital compute annually by decade's end. SpaceX has filed with the FCC to deploy up to 100,000 Gen3 Starlink satellites, each carrying 250 kW and equipped with a SpaceX-designed Nvidia computer. This represents 25 GW of the projected capacity. Orbital data centres could benefit from constant solar power without grid constraints, though the technology remains largely experimental.
