Requirements
  • 15+ years of progressive manufacturing and production engineering experience, including at least one program carried from factory design through full-rate production at a sustained rate of at least 100 units per week.
  • Direct accountability for production rate, yield, and unit cost on a high-complexity electromechanical or aerospace product at rate.
  • Experience designing, commissioning, and operating robotic assembly systems, automated test equipment, and automated material handling.
  • Direct accountability for automated test equipment design, fault coverage validation, and production test software.
  • Experience embedding design-for-manufacturability discipline in product design teams during development.
  • Hands-on manufacturing execution system experience including work order management, traveler control, automated test equipment data integration, and as-built genealogy.
  • Experience building multidisciplinary manufacturing engineering teams, including managing embedded engineers.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent verifiable experience.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends occasionally during critical periods.
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR, defined as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or individual granted asylum or refugee status.
  • Must hold work authorization for the location of the role; employment sponsorship is not available.
Responsibilities
  • Own the factory system that produces satellites at rate.
  • Own the production success metric of five spacecraft per day sustained at or below the Design-to-Cost target.
  • Assume full production ownership at Manufacturing Readiness Review, with production line decisions routed through this role thereafter.
  • Manage production design changes through the Configuration Control Board and concur before engineering change orders are released.
  • Provide direct accountability for first-pass yield, automation uptime of at least 95%, and automated test equipment fault coverage of at least 95%.
  • Lead design-for-manufacturability reviews at Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review, and close critical and major findings before Critical Design Review.
  • Direct process engineering, tooling design, production bill of materials control, and work instruction development.
  • Lead manufacturing readiness assessment and Manufacturing Readiness Review preparation, and present manufacturing readiness evidence to the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Design, commission, and operate robotic assembly systems while maintaining automation uptime of at least 95%.
  • Own automated test equipment design and development for board-, subsystem-, and spacecraft-level automated testing.
  • Achieve at least 95% fault detection to line-replaceable-unit level and a false failure rate of no more than 0.5%.
  • Own Test Program Set development, validation, and production test software.
  • Manage daily production rate at the five-spacecraft-per-day target through factory layout optimization and workforce planning.
  • Maintain station utilization balance between 60% and 90% per station and enforce hold-point compliance.
  • Drive headcount growth capped at 20% of the volume growth rate.
  • Implement and operate the manufacturing execution system, including work order management, traveler control, and automated test equipment data integration.
  • Monitor statistical process control, yield trending, and defect Pareto analysis.
  • Enforce workmanship standards under IPC-A-610 Class 3 and maintain a dotted-line relationship to the Vice President of Manufacturing Assurance and Quality for quality-system compliance.

  • Experience in aerospace or defense high-rate production, including satellites, missiles, avionics, or comparable complex systems.
  • Direct experience with satellite manufacturing or space hardware production.
  • Familiarity with Design-to-Cost methodologies and production cost modeling.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing transformation in a high-complexity environment.
  • Familiarity with digital twin and model-based manufacturing approaches.
