  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic or outpatient setting, or one year in the Novice-II position, is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification or instructor status through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT status, is required.
  • Sufficient English speaking, reading, and writing proficiency to perform essential job functions, particularly those affecting patient or employee safety or security, is required.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and patient care, including assisting with examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, and knowledge of medical equipment and instruments, is required.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance to support accurate medical records is required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes is required.
  • The role requires maintaining current certifications and completing required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the examination and treatment of patients under direct clinical or administrative leadership supervision.
  • Assist providers in administering patient care in assigned clinical areas, including examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes.
  • Perform general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, government standards, and company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in physician-directed patient care within the scope of a medical assistant.
  • Schedule patient appointments, ensure medical necessity compliance, and verify eligibility for care as required.
  • Contribute to a positive interprofessional work environment, respond to requests for assistance, support teamwork, and help resolve problems.
  • Communicate and collaborate with peers, staff, physicians, and other members of the interprofessional team; report pertinent patient-care information clearly and promptly, and forward telephone or email messages to the provider or registered nurse.
  • Provide care to clinic patients under the direct supervision of a physician, registered nurse, or clinic leadership procedures, anticipating the needs of the patient population with the provider team.
  • Communicate with patients; obtain and document vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical and social history as appropriate.
  • Document care administered, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in the patient's electronic medical record in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Follow up with patients as appropriate regarding recommendations, medications, laboratory or X-ray results, special visits, primary care visits, dieticians, diabetes educators, and related care; support patient use and activation of MyChart.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and assist with maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Report patient observations, conditions, and problems to the physician or nurse to support desired patient outcomes, while protecting patient and family privacy and safety.
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment under the supervision of a Senior Medical Assistant or Registered Nurse.
  • Participate in identifying quality and safety improvement activities, report near misses, and collaborate with the interprofessional team.
  • Stock examination rooms and take inventory; use supplies and other resources efficiently.
  • Manage time and prioritize daily tasks to minimize incidental overtime, use time efficiently between heavy workloads, and help other team members.
  • Offer solutions through participation in performance-improvement projects and professional-development activities.
  • Seek guidance and validation from a preceptor and assigned licensed personnel when needed, particularly regarding knowledge, skills, or decision-making.
  • Complete and update the My Development plan on an ongoing basis.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification through ACA is preferred.
