Machine Learning
Requirements
  • PhD Candidate in STEM: Currently enrolled in a PhD program (Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Math/Statistics) with a strong publication or research footprint in machine learning and excellent general-purpose programming skills.
  • Agentic Systems Experience: Hands-on experience building large language model systems that use multi-agent coordination, advanced tool execution, and complex context management. You should deeply understand how state-of-the-art coding agents operate under the hood (e.g., Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex).
Responsibilities
  • Design Agentic Frameworks: Develop and scale multi-agent platforms that autonomously generate, test, and execute simulation code for complex physical, mechanical, or chemical systems.
  • Architect Knowledge Ontologies: Build the formal schemas, data structures, and physical ontologies that allow large language models to reason accurately about machinery, physical constraints, and engineering primitives.
  • Close the Loop on Simulation: Integrate agentic code generation with active physics engines. Build the runtime verification and feedback loops that allow agents to self-correct when their simulation code fails.
  • Engage with the Community: Embedded directly within a confidential X project, collaborate with the broader X intern and AI community, participating in technical colloquia and talks with AI leaders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Open-source contributions or peer-reviewed publications at top-tier venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, etc.).
  • Experience building deterministic verification loops or execution environments where large language model agents learn from runtime errors.
  • Familiarity with physics engines, robotics simulators (e.g., MuJoCo, PyBullet, Gazebo), or CAD APIs to build digital twins and representations of physical machinery.

X The Moonshot Factory is Alphabet/Google’s tech incubator that develops audacious, long-term projects aimed at solving big global problems. It works by exploring hundreds of ideas each year, quickly testing them with early hardware prototypes and multidisciplinary teams, and using a fail-fast approach to weed out unviable concepts. Only a few ideas survive a rigorous vetting process and are turned into official projects; many later become independent companies within Alphabet’s portfolio or spin out as startup ventures funded by Alphabet and external investors. Unlike traditional labs, X focuses on de-risking radical solutions built on breakthrough technologies rather than incremental improvements, with the goal of delivering scalable, real-world impact through new products and companies.

Apptronik raises $520M to scale production of Apollo humanoid robot

Apptronik has raised $520 million in a Series A-X extension round, bringing its total funding to nearly $1 billion. The round included existing investors B Capital, Google, Mercedes-Benz and PEAK6, alongside new backers ATT Ventures, John Deere and Qatar Investment Authority. The company will use the funds to scale production of Apollo, its humanoid robot, and expand commercial deployments. Standing five feet eight inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, Apollo can carry 55 pounds and operates for four hours on battery power. Apptronik has partnerships with Mercedes-Benz, GXO Logistics and Jabil for factory and warehouse deployments. The company is also collaborating with Google DeepMind on next-generation humanoid robots powered by Gemini Robotics models. With nearly 300 employees, Apptronik plans to expand Apollo into retail, healthcare and eventually domestic applications.

Alphabet's X Launches $500M Series X Fund

Alphabet's X Moonshot Factory is adopting a new strategy by spinning out projects as independent companies with the help of Series X Capital, a dedicated venture fund. Series X Capital, led by Gideon Yu, has raised over $500 million and invests exclusively in X spinouts, with Alphabet as a minority investor. This approach allows projects to benefit from strategic ties with Alphabet without being controlled by it, enabling faster development for some moonshots.
