Shure invests in Edge Sound Research's AI-powered audio mixing tech for sports broadcasts

Edge Sound Research has secured an undisclosed investment from audio equipment manufacturer Shure. The audio innovation startup, which has previously raised funding from the USTA, NBA and MLS, has now raised $5.5 million since its 2020 founding. Edge has collaborated with Shure for several years on its Virtual Sound Engine, which combines object tracking data and custom AI models to automate audio mixing for sports broadcasters. The system uses Shure's DCA901 array microphone and has been tested by MLS and Fox Sports. The technology can isolate different audio feeds for alternative broadcasts or operational use, such as referee-specific audio. Edge is now working to scale commercial integration with partners, focusing on deploying infrastructure across multiple venues with customised workflows for different clients.

Nicole Laurel Asensio is Shure Microphone's first Philippine brand ambassador for music.

Nicole Laurel Asensio is Shure Microphone's first Philippine brand ambassador for music. Published March 31, 2026 Nicole Laurel Asensio becomes Shure Microphone's first Philippine music brand ambassador, marking a bold new chapter for Filipino sound. When Nothing Is Certain, Stay With What You Love At her core, Nicole is a storyteller - whether she's interpreting a jazz standard, belting its classic rock or performing her own compositions in her home country or elsewhere in the world. Being named the first Filipina ambassador for Shure Microphones reflects more than an achievement, it's a natural extension of her journey. This breakthrough marks a moment where timing, trust, and years of work come together - Nicole's 20 years in music, Shure's 100-year legacy, and JB Music's 50 years excellence and supporting artists in the Philippines. Three milestones, Three Different journeys. One purpose. Shure celebrated their 100th year anniversary and new partnership with JB Music Philippines (who also celebrated their 50th anniversary) where Nicole performed as Shure's launching artist, she was then named Shure's first Filipina brand ambassador (for music). Built to Last % buffered Powered by GliaStudios For nearly a century, Shure has been part of those moments - when the voice has to carry, when the sound has to hold, when what's being shared needs to be felt, not just heard. In those moments, Nicole writes and performs for the ones who sit with their feelings a little longer than most. The ones navigating reinvention. The ones healing quietly. The ones who live somewhere between nostalgia and now. That only happens when nothing gets in the way and people can focus on the music. "Reliable gear is a big factor - it makes me breathe and sing easier," Nicole says. In the Philippines, JB Music has spent 50 years making that possible, giving artists access to tools they can trust as they find their voice. Now, that shared understanding comes together in Nicole's partnership with Shure, as she takes the stage with the Super 55 (launching soon) - an iconic microphone rooted in decades of music history that stands as part of that continuity - where past and present meet to help all types of voices find their place. From One Stage to Another Filipino voices have always carried stories across borders. What's burgeoning now is how far and fast they can reach others, how many of its stories get to be heard through song. After all, what seeps into its consciousness isn't just the performance... when its stories are told through song, the singing stays with ClickTheCity, reminding ClickTheCity that music is a phenomenal shared experience, carried from one listener to another, long after the stage lights fade. Following her residency at Café Carlyle in Hong Kong, Nicole took the stage in Taipei, becoming the first Filipino artist to perform at Smith & Wollensky. From one room to another, the journey expands - without losing its center. When she performs abroad, she carries pieces of home with her. Sometimes in language. Sometimes in phrasing. Sometimes in something less visible, but deeply felt. There might be someone in the room who doesn't understand every word - but understands exactly what she means. That exchange is the point. With a global presence that has long supported artists across borders, this partnership with Shure allows that exchange to travel further - amplifying the voice of local stories and carrying them onto wider audiences, without losing what makes them personal. Music Never Dies, It Adapts No one could have predicted how the world would shift and sway after the pandemic pause, years later, there seems to be a passionate resurgence for nightlife, but not just the kind ClickTheCity knew before, younger Filipinos have been embracing speakeasy culture, low wattage lighting and jazz. The streets of Manila glimmer madly under the newly installed neon signs and deep crimson glow of scores of venues putting on "jazz nights" across the metro. The perfect backdrop for a Shure Super 55. "Both the local and global music scene is embracing a resurgence of the classics and jazz influences in modern music, Here in Manila, there have been so many "jazz nights" and speakeasies popping up across the metro, younger crowds stumble in ordering martinis and classic cocktails singing along to standards in dimly lit bars - like the olden golden days, It is an unexpected renaissance of the jazz age influence right about a century later with the quirks and complexities of modern day Filipino style - the perfect blend of old meets new." - Nicole There were times when many questioned Nicole's choice switching genres from her former rock inclinations, but who would have known that choice she made over a decade ago would take her exactly where she was meant to be today - an influential figure amongst the younger ones in this realm, smiling ear to ear, Shure 55 in hand, knowing that perhaps surpassing the doubt from naysayers was worth it. After all, reinvention doesn't mean that you no longer love other kinds of music, it simply means you've unlocked new parts of your story through other forms of artistry. It goes to show that even when nothing is certain, keep doing what you love. You never know how your own story goes unless you write it yourself. IBC unveils 2026 Accelerator projects tackling industry challenges and driving change across global media.

IBC unveils 2026 Accelerator projects tackling industry challenges and driving change across global media. * Leading global players, including BBC, NBCUniversal, DAZN, Sky and Associated Press, champion leading-edge innovation projects * Nine projects unveiled after 2026 Accelerator Kickstart Day explore AI-led production, immersive live experiences, next-gen streaming and more * EIT Culture & Creativity joins as Innovation Partner, with AMD-HP and Shure as Associate Sponsors London, 24 March 2026 - IBC today announced the nine projects selected for its 2026 Accelerator Media Innovation Programme, bringing together organisations from across broadcast, streaming, live events and media tech to explore emerging innovations that reshape the way content is created, distributed and experienced. Selected from pitches by leading global media organisations at the 2026 Accelerator Kickstart Day at BBC Broadcasting House, this year's Accelerator programme sees media organisations, which include BBC, NBCUniversal, DAZN, ITV, Channel 4, Associated Press, Sky and Al Jazeera, collaborating with technology providers on a new generation of projects. Now in its eighth year, the Accelerator Programme has become a focal point for collaboration across the industry, providing a framework for fast-tracking hands-on projects that address real-world industry needs. "The Accelerator Programme provides a unique sandbox for collaborative innovation, bringing the industry together to solve complex challenges in an open and trusted environment," said Mark Smith, Lead, IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Programme. "Each year, we see ideas rapidly evolve into practical solutions, with teams working together in ways that simply aren't possible in day-to-day operations." AMD-HP and Shure have been announced as Associate Sponsors of the Accelerator Programme, while EIT Culture & Creativity, supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), was unveiled at the Kickstart event as IBC's Innovation Partner for 2026 - reinforcing its role as a catalyst for innovation across the global media ecosystem. Industry participants highlighted the value of the programme in accelerating innovation through collaboration. Sandeep Tiku, Chief Technology Officer at DAZN, said when it comes to industry advances in areas such as streaming: "The Accelerator Programme is actually becoming the glue that brings hardware, software, and technology experts together to revolutionise, redefine, and reimagine what streaming will look like - It's only possible because of this programme." Alex Bassett, Vice President, Innovation at NBCUniversal, noted that fragmented news workflows are a pressing industry challenge that the incubator project aims to address, saying: "Story centric has been a concept that's been thrown around specifically in news for a really long time, but it's been very hard to execute. We're not building a proof of concept or a demo - we're trying to ship something that's almost a minimum viable product that could be then adopted." The projects selected for 2026 will now enter a six-month development phase, during which project teams are formed and solutions rapidly developed in a collaborative, cross-industry environment - culminating in live Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrations in the Accelerator Zone at IBC2026 (11-14 September). The 2026 Accelerator and Incubator projects are: Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice - Proposed by GSMA Fusion, BBC, EBU (including 5G MAG & 5G EMERGE consortia), France Télévisions, RAI (CRITS), University of Strathclyde, with supporting Participant Neutral Wireless: This project is using open 5G network APIs to dynamically prioritise broadcast devices, ensuring reliable high-quality wireless video feeds in congested environments. FRAMES: Federated Retrieval, Agentic Media Environment and Software (Defined Workflows) - Proposed by RAI, EBU, MovieLabs with Co-Champions ITV, ETC (Entertainment Technology Center) USC (University of Southern California), XRBB (Extended Reality Berlin-Brandenburg)` and supporting Participants AMD-HP and Holli: The FRAMES Accelerator challenge aims to connect broadcaster archives, creative teams, and AI agents to accelerate pre-production through intelligent content discovery and multimodal AI collaboration. Crystal Clear: Boosting Speech Intelligibility in Media - Proposed by Channel 4 and BBC: This project develops and pilots a metric for measuring dialogue intelligibility in audiovisual content, integrating it into broadcast production workflows to detect accessibility issues and demonstrate its use across real technical environments. Delta Protocol: Live Media Reinvented - Proposed by DAZN: Delta Protocol transforms live streaming by reinventing the transmission layer of live media. It shifts from frame-based delivery to a semantic model that understands which moments matter. Only meaningful event updates are sent, with the rest intelligently reconstructed at the destination. This enables hyper-personalised, immersive and adaptive experiences at massive scale. Using AI to shift personalisation from duplication to composition, it unlocks new creative, operational and efficiency gains. IFeL: Immersive Festival Live - Remote Presence at Scale - Proposed by SMPTE, MIT Reality Hack, with Co-Champions Kings College London, University of Galway, University of Southampton, ITV and supporting Participants Shure, DeoVR, Motion Impossible and Surround Sync: This ambitious project prototypes an end-to-end workflow for immersive live streaming from music festivals, combining multi-perspective video, viewpoint-aware spatial audio, and interactive audience participation. Shure Launches Compact MVX2U Gen 2 Interface For Mobile XLR Recording

Shure launches compact MVX2U Gen 2 interface for mobile XLR recording. April Ossington | 05 Mar 2026 Shure has revealed a new portable audio interface designed to connect professional XLR microphones directly to modern mobile devices. The MVX2U Gen 2 is a single-channel digital interface that links microphones to smartphones, tablets and computers through USB-C, allowing creators to capture studio-quality audio without relying on bulky equipment or external power supplies. The device is aimed at podcasters, livestreamers and mobile journalists who frequently record outside a traditional studio environment. These users often face a trade-off between audio quality and portability when working with professional microphones. Shure's latest interface attempts to remove that compromise by providing a compact solution capable of supporting standard XLR microphones while remaining easy to carry and deploy on location. According to the company, the MVX2U Gen 2 delivers up to 60dB of clean gain and provides 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. This means it can support a wide range of popular recording microphones, including dynamic models commonly used for broadcasting as well as more sensitive condenser units. Several built-in processing tools are designed to simplify recording in unpredictable environments. An Auto-Level mode automatically adjusts input levels to maintain consistent sound, while a real-time denoising system works to reduce background noise. A Digital Popper Stopper function is included to limit harsh plosive sounds that can occur when recording vocals. All digital signal processing is handled with zero-latency performance, allowing users to monitor audio in real time without delay. The interface also remembers the most recent settings used, making it easier for creators to move between devices while maintaining consistent sound profiles across different recording sessions. Further sound adjustments are available through Shure's MOTIV application, which is compatible with iOS, Android and desktop systems. The app allows users to adjust equalisation, compression, limiting and monitoring preferences. These settings remain active even when recording through third-party apps such as camera software or streaming platforms. The MVX2U Gen 2 also includes a 3.5mm headphone output for direct monitoring during recording. A tri-colour LED indicator provides a quick visual reference for connection and operating status, which can be useful when setting up quickly in unfamiliar locations. By focusing on portability and simplified audio processing, the interface is designed to make professional microphone recording more accessible for creators who work across multiple devices and recording environments.
