About the company

Orchard Robotics designs and sells (and may lease) advanced camera systems paired with AI-powered computer vision software to manage crop load in orchards. The system attaches to tractors or farm vehicles, capturing images of trees and using custom software to size and track visible fruit on every tree. This provides growers with precise data on fruit load, enabling informed decisions to optimize yield and fruit quality. Unlike generic surveillance or imaging tools, Orchard combines Cornell University–originated research with purpose-built hardware and software for per-tree fruit counting and tracking. The company’s goal is to help orchard operators improve crop yield and quality through data-driven farming, supported by direct sales or service contracts.

What believers are saying

  • September 2025 Series A raised $22M from Quiet, Shine, and General Catalyst.
  • Orchard says it is deployed on leading U.S. apple and grape farms.
  • August 2026 interviews report strong international pull, expanding market beyond American specialty crops.

What critics are saying

  • Hardware deployment costs and service burden can crush margins versus pure software rivals.
  • 2026 crop expansion into pomegranates, coffee, and strawberries stretches calibration, support, and sales.
  • If growers reject subscriptions after harvest, Orchard becomes an expensive sensor vendor, not a platform.

What makes Orchard unique

  • Orchard Robotics mounts FruitScope Vision on tractors, digitizing tree-level fruit counts and sizing.
  • By 2026, Orchard serves apples, grapes, blueberries, cherries, almonds, pistachios, citrus.
  • Cornell-rooted Orchard sells hardware plus software, creating a tighter system-of-record than standalone apps.
