Requirements
- MT (ASCP) certification is required.
- Previous experience in a general laboratory is required.
- Considerable knowledge of laboratory principles and applications is required.
- Working knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, and materials is required.
- Ability to perform standard laboratory tests and examinations independently is required.
- Ability to prepare laboratory records and reports is required.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and physicians is required.
- Ability to perform routine and advanced testing procedures is required.
Responsibilities
- Verify proper specimen, test, and patient identification.
- Take responsibility for completing daily routine duties and assigned work.
- Investigate and resolve pending or incomplete work and discrepancies.
- Perform and record quality control and take and document appropriate action.
- Troubleshoot problems with procedures and quality control.
- Recognize unreasonable results or patient information and react appropriately.
- Participate in proficiency testing.
- Meet the requirements of the Laboratory Continuing Education program.
- Perform appropriate repeat testing when abnormal results are found.
- Judge specimen adequacy and integrity.
- Report and investigate computer and instrument problems.
- Complete testing within turnaround-time guidelines.
- Organize and complete several tasks simultaneously without loss of accuracy.
