Requirements
- MT (ASCP) certification and previous experience in general laboratory work, Night Shift experience preferred or required.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and laboratory applications.
- Working knowledge of current laboratory facilities, methods, equipment and materials.
- Ability to perform standard laboratory tests and examinations independently.
- Ability to prepare laboratory records and reports.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, patients, and physicians.
- Ability to perform routine and advanced testing procedures.
Responsibilities
- Verifies proper specimen/test/patient identification
- Takes responsibility for completion of daily routine duties/assigned work
- Investigates and resolves pending and incomplete work, and discrepancies
- Performs and records quality control, takes and documents appropriate action
- Troubleshoots problems with procedures, and Quality control
- Recognizes unreasonable results/ patient information and reacts appropriately
- Participates in proficiency testing
- Meets expected requirements of Laboratory Continuing Education program
- Performs appropriate repeat testing when abnormal results are found
- Judges specimen adequacy/ integrity
- Reports and investigates computer problems and instrument problems
- Completes testing within turn-around time guidelines
- Organizes and completes several tasks simultaneously without loss of accuracy
