Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of related professional experience, or a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of thirteen years of related professional experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience within a high-voltage transmission organization or comparable regulated utility for at least four years.
  • Responsibility for managing project scope, schedule, cost, resources, and implementation activities for one or more capital projects for at least two years.
  • Ability to maintain schedule commitments while ensuring safety remains the highest priority.
  • Willingness to travel and work remotely as necessary to support project implementation activities.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful execution of a portfolio of transmission line projects by aligning organizational resources, roles, processes, and project management practices.
  • Lead a team of project management professionals responsible for planning, executing, monitoring, and closing transmission line projects.
  • Implement and continuously improve Power Grid Operations project management strategies, policies, standards, tools, and processes.
  • Equip organizational leaders and project stakeholders to apply project management methodologies, governance processes, tools, and communications.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and stakeholder expectations to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Lead project gate reviews, portfolio reviews, and project status reviews to support timely decision-making and alignment with business objectives.
  • Drive consistency in project execution practices across the organization to improve performance, predictability, and delivery outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for assigned capital project portfolios and annual spending plans.
  • Manage forecasting, budget management, financial reconciliation, and identification of cost and schedule risks.
  • Lead monthly project reviews and budget projections.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including management of reimbursable projects and related financial reconciliation activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for stakeholder relationships and conflict resolution with Grid Integration, Transmission, and other key business partners.
  • Build partnerships across departments to support project implementation and organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align project objectives, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Support organizational change initiatives and build commitment to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop, coach, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of project management professionals.
  • Provide direction, performance feedback, professional development opportunities, and career growth support.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning through project management tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives.
  • Work with suppliers, vendors, contractors, and operational personnel to achieve common objectives.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and ten or more years of related professional experience.
  • A master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional project management certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent credentials.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Certifications from the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, construction management organizations, or utility-specific technical programs.
  • Experience working in and promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Experience leading complex transmission line projects and collaborating across multiple functional disciplines.
  • Knowledge of transmission line construction, including foundations, monopoles, lattice structures, access construction, erosion control, environmental mitigation, easement requirements, inspections, and construction safety practices.
  • Experience working with Engineering, Siting, Permitting, Contract Management, Legal, Real Estate, Operations, Environmental Health and Safety, Supply Chain, Asset Protection, and Stakeholder Engagement organizations.
  • Ability to lead strategic initiatives and gain organizational support for change.
  • Leadership, decision-making, organizational, and relationship management skills.
  • Written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to translate corporate and departmental objectives into actionable business plans and project execution strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet commitments in a dynamic environment.

Duke Energy cuts Eastern NC and Asheville rate increase from 15.1% to 9.3%

Duke Energy Progress has agreed to reduce its proposed rate increase for customers in eastern North Carolina and the Asheville area from 15.1% to 9.3% over two years. The average residential customer will pay an additional $9.62 per month starting January, plus $5.89 more beginning January 2028. The settlement also caps Duke's return on equity at 9.8%. This follows significant pushback from state leaders and customers after Duke Energy reported $5 billion in profits in 2025 and over $1 billion in net income last quarter. The North Carolina Utilities Commission will review the proposal starting 11 August, with a final decision expected this autumn. Duke Energy Carolinas previously lowered its rate increase to 9.5%. Both Duke utilities will merge into one by 1 January 2026.
