Requirements
  • Current or temporary occupational therapist licensure in the applicable state where services will be performed.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Be able to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a coordinated work effort and meet work schedules.
  • Be able to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Have the specific vision abilities required for the job, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Use lift equipment and appropriate patient-handling aids for transfers, lifts, and repositioning as indicated by the patient's profile and applicable algorithms.
  • Be able to work in an environment involving exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and cleaning and laundry chemicals.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat patients who have difficulty performing daily tasks due to physical, emotional, cognitive, or psychosocial conditions.
  • Provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care, including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions, and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Evaluate patient needs and develop and implement treatment programs to identify, prevent, and minimize physical disabilities or pain.
  • Determine or revise priorities for direct and indirect patient-care activities based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Collaborate with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
  • Document all treatments according to department policies and procedures, using supervision, documentation review, and consultation with the referring provider.
  • Submit accurate charges for services rendered according to departmental policies and procedures through the billing system via the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Provide oversight and supervision for certified occupational therapy assistants, students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in education and training for staff, students, patients, and family members to support appropriate care delivery.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable, through computer-based learning, trainings, in-services, or competency validation.
