Requirements
  • A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse program, is required.
  • A current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse in the state is required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure that assigned nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Review department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing and support personnel.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain each resident’s total care regimen.
  • Participate in the nursing service quality assurance program and facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with planning nursing services for discharge.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete related forms, reports, census records, and documentation.
  • Protect facility information systems and resident protected health information and report suspected unauthorized access or disclosure.
  • Complete and file required records and charts for resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe physician orders to resident charts, medication cards, treatment plans, and care plans.
  • Chart nurses’ notes and accident or incident reports accurately and descriptively and report discrepancies to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Record diet orders and forward changes to the Food Services Department.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments, verify resident identity, maintain medication supplies, and ensure accurate narcotic records.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment and report medication or narcotic discrepancies.
  • Review medication cards and notify physicians about automatic stop orders before the final dosage.
  • Dispose of drugs and narcotics according to established procedures.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and recommend personnel actions to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Develop work assignments, provide leadership to assigned nursing personnel, conduct rounds, identify problem areas, and report them to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training programs and that nurse aide trainees receive direct licensed-nurse supervision.
  • Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Report occupational exposures, suspected fraud, and safety or security incidents according to facility procedures.
  • Inform nursing personnel about new admissions, prepare rooms, greet and orient residents and families, and coordinate admissions.
  • Make physician rounds and arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered.
  • Consult with physicians regarding resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation and review charts for treatments, medications, and diets.
  • Implement nursing objectives and standards and monitor the administration of prescribed treatments and residents’ physical and emotional status.
  • Coordinate social and activity programs with nursing schedules and notify physicians and next of kin about accidents or changes in resident condition.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs, including self-help and care.
  • Provide professional nursing services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, ostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, range-of-motion exercises, and post-mortem care.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents, dietary compliance, resident care-plan adherence, and required checks for residents unable to call for help.
  • Meet with residents and family members, arrange transportation for discharged residents, escort discharged residents, and notify families and funeral homes after a resident’s death.
  • Develop, plan, conduct, and schedule in-service training and orientation programs for nursing personnel.
  • Assist with standardizing work methods, training personnel on blood and body-fluid exposure tasks, and planning clinical supervision for nurse aide trainees.
  • Attend external training, annual facility in-service programs, advance-directive training, and continuing education.
  • Monitor personnel compliance with safety regulations, infection-control procedures, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment use, fire and disaster drills, and safe equipment operation.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work areas and resident-care rooms and ensure adequate supplies, equipment, medications, and personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in infection-control, hazardous-condition reporting, equipment-safety, and material-safety-data-sheet procedures.
  • Review resident care plans daily, identify needed revisions, ensure nursing notes reflect care-plan implementation, and ensure certified nursing assistants follow care plans.
  • Assist with Minimum Data Set assessments and revision of resident assessment and care plans.
  • Report suspected or known fraud involving false billings, cost reports, and kickbacks and provide data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
