Requirements
  • At least 10 years of sensor or hardware development experience for consumer wearables, including ownership of at least one sensing system end-to-end through a shipped product.
  • Deep expertise in optical photoplethysmography, including front-end design and motion-robust heart-rate and heart-rate-variability algorithms validated in real-world wearable conditions.
  • Strong analog front-end design experience, including noise, signal integrity, and low-power sensing systems.
  • Experience integrating sensors in wearables, including selection, calibration, characterization, and data analysis.
  • Direct experience owning sensor selection, benchmarking, bill of materials, and second-source strategy.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with an oscilloscope and logic analyzer.
  • Ability to partner with electrical engineering, firmware, mechanical engineering, and overseas contract-manufacturing teams.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the sensor system architecture and research and development for the product’s non-electroencephalography sensing.
  • Design, select, and evaluate the sensor suite, focusing primarily on optical sensing, including photoplethysmography and pulse oximetry, inertial sensing with an accelerometer and gyroscope, body-temperature sensing, and environmental sensing for ambient temperature, humidity, light, and barometric pressure.
  • Own heart-rate and heart-rate-variability estimation, including algorithms that remain accurate while the wearer is in motion.
  • Drive sensor front-end design and component selection, own the bill of materials and second-source strategy, and partner with the electrical-engineering lead on schematic and layout.
  • Develop signal-conditioning, calibration, and characterization methods across the sensor suite.
  • Define the sensor-fusion approach that combines sensor streams into reliable signals for the artificial-intelligence assistant.
  • Specify the electrical, mechanical, and firmware interfaces required by each sensor, partnering on skin-contact placement, optical windows, acquisition runtime, and hardware-aligned cross-sensor timestamping.
  • Partner with the artificial-intelligence and machine-learning lead on learned models and with the reliability lead on skin-contact durability, sweat tolerance, and long-wear stability.
  • Lead technical reviews and design documentation for the sensing system.
  • Ship the product by the end of the year and build and lead the sensing team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with inertial-sensing algorithms for activity, gesture, and context classification, and orientation estimation.
  • Experience with additional health sensors such as SpO₂, ECG, EDA, or EMG.
  • Experience with contact-based body-temperature measurement, including thermal modeling, calibration, and ambient compensation.
  • Experience with multimodal sensor fusion across optical, inertial, and temperature streams.
  • Knowledge of human physiology or biomechanics.
  • Experience with biocompatible skin-contact and dry-contact sensor interfaces.
  • Experience with always-on, ultra-low-power sensing architectures.
  • Founding engineer or lead-level experience at an early-stage consumer hardware company.

Sabi designs everyday products that are easier to use and more attractive, targeting items people rely on daily such as walking canes, pill boxes, and bathroom hardware. Their approach centers on user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing designs that improve comfort and function. How the products work: they emphasize ergonomic handles, simple mechanisms, reliable materials, and intuitive use—so users can operate items with less effort and more confidence. How Sabi differs from competitors: they prioritize combining practicality with beauty, moving away from plain, uninspired, hard-to-use designs toward objects people actually enjoy using. Their goal is to make daily tools smarter and more delightful to use, so everyday life feels smoother and more enjoyable.
