About the job

Requirements
  • At least 10 years of experience as a senior engineer, with strategic supplier engineering experience in low-volume, high-complexity, custom-heavy product development.
  • Automotive industry background and fluent knowledge of automotive vocabulary and cadence.
  • Fluency in APQP, PPAP, IATF 16949, ISO 26262, functional safety/ASIL, run-at-rate validation, tooling kickoff, SOP/SORP dates, PSW signoff, and supplier scorecards.
  • Strong experience sourcing and qualifying low-volume molded parts at production scale, including composite, SMC/RIM, and/or large-format injection-molded parts; outdoor-rated body panels or structural enclosures are ideal.
  • Demonstrated experience transitioning from prototype manufacturing methods to production tooling, including structuring tooling investments and coordinating design for manufacturing with industrial designers.
  • Fluency in the McMaster-Carr and Digi-Key catalogs as engineering tools, and ability to transition parts from catalog sourcing as volumes mature.
  • Fluency in TAA and BABA compliance and country-of-origin documentation; familiarity with NIST 800-171, CMMC, and SBOM software supply-chain security frameworks, and ability to enforce them through supplier qualification and contract language.
  • An engineering degree is required; Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site at Sunnyvale HQ and travel to suppliers as needed (approximately 15–25%).
Responsibilities
  • Build commercial frameworks, including negotiating Master Purchase Agreements with volume-based pricing, tariff-deferred offshore stocking in TAA countries, mission-critical warranty terms, and forecast/cancellation mechanisms; maintain a TAA- and BABA-compliant portfolio with no PRC sourcing for parts or embedded software, and structure tooling investments to protect company intellectual property.
  • Build direct relationships with principal engineers at top-30% suppliers; provide rapid access to hot-fix support, failure analysis, and design consultation; read drawings, understand platforms at the module level, and write engineering escalation communications.
  • Lead the two-step transition of integration-partner-sourced BOM lines to direct company ownership, transfer customer-of-record status at strategic suppliers, and reduce outside consulting spend by providing sourcing capability.
  • Run the co-marketing and reference partner program by structuring non-monetary supplier value, including platform visibility, case studies, and “powered by” branding, in coordination with the Chief Design Officer and Creative Director.
  • Transition high-spend catalog-sourced parts to volume-sourced alternatives as production warrants, and structure release agreements that retain responsiveness while reducing retail pricing.
  • Own embedded subsystem supplier strategy by tracking AI compute and embedded vision suppliers, maintaining credible partner status, and re-engineering dependencies so the company drives technical direction.
  • Drive supplier cyber compliance and software supply-chain security by qualifying suppliers against NIST 800-171, CMMC, SBOM completeness, and signed-update mechanisms, and monitoring supplier posture through contract language and ongoing review.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience sourcing molded parts ideally includes outdoor-rated body panels or structural enclosures.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred.

Knightscope unveils unified autonomous security system integrating robots, AI and human agents

Knightscope has published "Command Brief", a field guide detailing its Autonomous Security Force ahead of its debut at GSX 2026 in Atlanta on 14-16 September. The brief outlines how the Force integrates machines, software, and licensed security agents under one contract and command structure. The company addresses what it sees as fragmented security operations, where clients typically manage multiple vendors for guards, cameras, and monitoring separately. Knightscope's approach uses a seven-level escalation model called ASF-7, spanning autonomous detection, remote command, and physical response. Founder William Santana Li said the Force aims to shift accountability from clients to Knightscope. The company serves 434 clients across 42 states, with its machines logging over 4.4 million autonomous hours. Security leaders can download the brief and meet the team at Booth 3905 during the conference.
