Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in software quality engineering or a related role within the medical device or another regulated industry.
  • Working experience with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ISO 13485 and 21 CFR.
  • Ability to deliver quality output under some supervision and general direction.

  • Ability to partner with Software Testing, System Validation, Business Owners, and other functions to drive a culture of quality.
  • Ability to identify, correct, and prevent obstacles to assuring non-product software quality.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply Quality Engineering principles, including structured development processes and risk management.
  • Working knowledge of product development, software development life-cycle processes, and software engineering best practices.
  • Willingness to work shifts supporting the United States region; no night shift is required.
Responsibilities
  • Review and approve software validation deliverables, including User Requirements Specifications, Functional Specifications, Configuration Specifications, risk assessments, validation plans, test protocols, reports, and change control documentation, to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead software assessments, classification, and categorization.
  • Ensure validation activities for non-product software follow applicable regulations, including 21 CFR 820 and 21 CFR 11, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead software risk-management activities for non-product software, including software supporting manufacturing processes such as Camstar and LIMS, and quality-system software such as SAP and ETQ.
  • Develop and conduct software-compliance training for software developers, validation engineers, software testers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on software life-cycle process documentation, data integrity, and electronic records and electronic signatures.
  • Support data management, data modeling, and supplier-management activities when required.
  • Participate in strategic and technical discussions and risk-based decision-making.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to assess software criticality and complexity.
  • Support the change-control process for validated systems by performing impact assessments to determine revalidation needs.
  • Provide support and guidance for developing new technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies, as they relate to software systems and tools.
  • Support and facilitate internal and external audits related to the non-product software domain.

Illumina will join the S&P 500 index on 21 September, alongside Bloom Energy and Everpure, replacing Molson Coors Beverage, The Trade Desk, and Builders FirstSource. S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the rebalancing on Friday. The San Diego-based genetic sequencing company, valued at $33 billion, has returned 112% over the past 12 months. The inclusion will trigger buying from passive funds tracking the index. Illumina is moving from the S&P MidCap 400, signalling its growth into large-cap status. In the second quarter, the company reported revenue of $1.16 billion, up 9.5% year-over-year, with earnings per share rising approximately 10% to $1.31.
