Requirements
  • Eligibility as a medical technologist is required for entry-level graduates of an approved associate degree program in an appropriate science field.
  • An associate degree in a related field is required.
  • An associate or bachelor's degree, or equivalent, preferably in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Science program, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to perform laboratory skills and demonstrate technical knowledge and competence in the expected responsibilities.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate effectively, pleasantly, cooperatively, and discreetly with patients, physicians, hospital employees, and the general public.
  • The candidate must be able to work under pressure and withstand crisis situations.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain confidential information regarding patients and team members.
  • The candidate must demonstrate creativity, initiative, and problem-solving ability.
  • The candidate must have knowledge and experience with electronic health records.
  • The candidate must be willing to increase knowledge of laboratory and hospital functions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform, calculate, and report routine and special laboratory tests.
  • Maintain equipment and troubleshoot problems.
  • Evaluate test results and quality-control data.
  • Serve as a resource and teach new employees and students.
  • Assist in evaluating new test procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the patient lifespan and assess patient data relative to age-specific needs in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Perform and evaluate maintenance systems and implement corrective action as appropriate.
  • Identify issues and processes requiring improvement and use resources to improve outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate training progress and recommend additional training.
  • Assist with maintenance and ordering of supplies.
  • Help maintain the organization and cleanliness of work and storage areas.
  • Plan and prioritize time and tasks to complete work assignments productively and independently.
  • Provide customer service to patients, team members, and visitors.
Desired Qualifications
  • ASCP Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician certification, or equivalent, is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
