McDonald’s operates a global network of fast-food restaurants offering burgers, fries, and other items, serving customers quickly and affordably. It uses a mix of company-owned and franchised locations, with revenue coming from store sales, franchise fees and royalties, and income from owning and leasing real estate. Domino's Pizza has held its quarterly dividend flat at $1.99 since February, yielding approximately 2.7%, while McDonald's raised its payout to $1.93, yielding about 3%. Domino's reported 0.1% US same-store sales growth in the second quarter, down from 3.4% a year earlier. Order counts rose but average ticket prices fell. The company's stockholders' equity stands at negative $3.98 billion due to debt and buybacks, whilst cash dropped 39.6% to $164.8 million. McDonald's posted 1.3% global comparable sales growth, though US restaurant traffic declined. The company paid approximately $1.3 billion in dividends in the second quarter alone. Domino's next dividend decision in February will signal whether the pause is temporary or indicates deeper concerns about its financial position.
McDonald's is testing a new advertising business called the McDonald's Media Network that could generate $1 billion in revenue. The fast-food chain plans to sell ad space on menu boards, kiosk screens, and its mobile app across its restaurants. The pilot programme currently covers 450 company-owned US restaurants. Global Chief Marketing Officer Morgan Flatley said the venture would generate revenue "with little in the way of additional cost, no operational complexity, and no disruption to our customer experience." McDonald's serves over 70 million customers daily and has nearly 220 million active loyalty members. The commerce media advertising segment is expected to surpass $100 billion in the US by 2028. The company reported total sales of over $7 billion last quarter.
McDonald's stock has fallen to a four-year low, trading nearly 30% below its March record high. The decline accelerated after the company's investor day on 23 September, when shares dropped 5%. The company announced plans to spend $8.5 billion supporting franchisees through 2036, with $5 billion allocated by 2030. McDonald's also pushed back its goal of reaching 50,000 restaurants to 2028, citing cautious consumers and higher building costs. Warren Buffett previously called selling McDonald's shares "a very big mistake" after Berkshire Hathaway divested its $1.4 billion stake in 1998. The company has raised its dividend for 50 consecutive years, now yielding near 3%. Analysts maintain a "moderate buy" rating with a mean price target suggesting 32% upside, though several firms reduced targets following the investor day.
